Help – I Can’t Sleep!
Browse through our post-op forum and you will find that insomnia after hysterectomy is a complaint of many of our HysterSisters members. Here is one such member who asked for help – and received lots of great advice:
Ladies, its been 3 weeks since surgery, lap haven taken all but cervix, repairs and bladder sling. I have had insomnia since the surgery. When I went to the Dr for my first check he said, its all hormonal, sleep when you can since you wont be going to work. So that is what I have been doing, but being awake all night and then about 5 am dozing off due to exhaustion for about 2 hours and then a 2 hour nap in the afternoon is just not doing it. I went to sleep at 10 last night only to wake up at 1:30 and have been up since, I have a dentist appt at 10:00 am so took a shower to get ready and I am totally exhausted. Have any of you ladies experienced this and if so can you give me any ideas?

hi i wouldn’t worry about it, the more you worry the more you can’t sleep. after my hysterectomy when i couldn’t sleep i just said to myself you’ll sleep when your tired, and i did. you’ve been through alot just listen to your body x
I started using a white noise approach (a small fan ) and that has really helped me. Also try some relaxation methods. I’m on my third week and I kind of hit the wall. Thought I was doing so good, then bang. I hope this passes quickly as I want to feel normal again. Good luck was the sleep issues.
I slept great for up to six weeks post-op. But then the night sweats began and lasted over two years. Just in the last two months I’ve been able to sleep the night. I cut out sweets and caffeine and I’m gluten free. I don’t know if it is a coincidence, but I’m sleeping well.
Good luck!
