We all know that water is important but I've never seen it written down
like this before.
Water
1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half
world population)
2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often
mistaken for hunger.
3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.
4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100%
of the dieters studied in a U-Washington study.
5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could
significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble
with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a
printed page.
8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by
45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50%
less likely to develop bladder cancer.
Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day?
COKE ... it's the real thing
1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of
Coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.
2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two
days.
3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let
the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in
Coke removes stains from vitreous china.
4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a
rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola
over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the
rusted bolt for several minutes.
7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap
the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is
finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for
a sumptuous brown gravy.
8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of
greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The
Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze
from your windshield.
For Your Info
1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It
will dissolve a nail in about 4 days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium
from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in
osteoporosis.
2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial trucks must
use the Hazardous-material place cards reserved for HIGHLY CORROSIVE
materials.
3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of
their trucks for about 20 years!
Now the question is, would you rather have a glass of water or coke?

Wow Kathy! That is amazing. I knew that coke wasn't the best for you, but to see it in writing.
I've cut down my diet coke consumption to 1 can a day. I keep a glass of ice water at my desk at all times. I've never been a big water drinker, but for about the last year I've really been trying and do drink at least 8 glasses a day. Now if I could only get dh to do the same.

Now there is reason behind why I never was fond of coke. Besides the fact that carbinated beverages upset the IBS. I always have my bottle of water. I try to drink as much as possible, it does curb the hunger pains. Add lemon wedges to make the water more refreshing. Cheers!

One of my girlfriends, told me a little hint, to help you drink at least 8 glasses of water a day: Have it in a wine glass, much more elegant, with a slice of lemon, makes it like a spritzer

Super Water information.
My father and my aunt have always said they didnt drink water because people wash their feet in the stuff.
This is true. But the benefits we gain from hydrating our bodies with it are innumerable

good one
That's a good one, fitbug. People wash their feet in the stuff....pretty funny.
We are also made of 70% water, and some days I may be closer to 85% LOL !
I have been on a water drinking kick lately, I got a Pur filter for the kitchen faucet and have been drinking that instead of my typical diet cola. You know what's funny.....I know several women who drink LOTS of diet colas, and not one of them is thin! It is just another addiction I think. I am trying to kick the habit!
If you have a hard time getting the water down, make it a treat by getting the bottled stuff (it costs the same as soda) and drink it out of a special glass, like mentioned above. I like to keep a jug of filtered water in the fridge so it is refreshingly cold.
I teach my daycare kids to ask for Earth Juice, they love that. LOL

OH MY GOSH
I am a total diet pepsi addict. I have been cutting way back for a few months but from what you just said it sounds like I am heading back to water. My hubby and I used to drink water with lime or lemon all the time and about 4 years ago I started on the soda kick and got stuck there. I think I will go stock the fridge with some H20. Thanks for the kick in the butt I needed.

Would you rather wash your feet with water or Coke?
Wow, Kathy. Maybe it's dehydration of why I sometimes feel fatigued in the afternoon. In fact, I drank water all day today and felt great, with lots of energy. I plan to pass that info to my customers.
I have read that the reason you cannot lose weight on diet drinks is because of the aspartame. Of course I don't remember what the mechanism was and will attempt to find that article. The article had nothing good to say about aspartame. It said that aspartame is broken down in the body into harmful components, such as formaldehyde, formic acid, and methanol. These components are especially harmful for people with diabetes because it can cause eye problems (i.e. vision loss).
I have not had a Coke in two days, just water. Robyn, I like the idea of lemon in the water.
Lauren

Wow, Lauren--you got me interested in reading about aspartame. I decided that if I wanted to lose weight I should start drinking 'diet' drinks. After reading what you wrote, I did a search and came up with this:
http://www.holisticmed.com/aspartame/
There's lots to read here, and I've only read a little of it, but what I've read so far is pretty scary. I think I'll go back to drinking flavored (unsweetened) seltzer water instead of soda.

I was never much of a water drinker before surgery..Diet Pepsi in an i.v. for me... lol..I started drinking a good bit, and I honestly can tell the difference. My skin looks better, bathroom functions are a lot easier, and just hydrates me. I put a glass in the freezer, so it is frosted when I take it out, and it tastes so good on a hot day!!! The flavored ones are good too....love this new part of the site!!!

WOW, what great information Kathy. I have read all of that about the Coke before but not the info that you provided about good ole H2O.
I have to admit, before my hysterectomy I was a Pepsi-aholic. I bought it by the 12 pack and drank it obsessively. Once I began having bladder troubles after my hysterectomy, my GYN said NO more Caffeine. So I gave up the Pepsi (I just couldn't stand the caffeine free stuff). So I switched to WATER. I bought a Brita Filter pitcher, it filters tap water and you keep in in the fridge. The water tastes so much better than straight tap water. The pitcher isn't very expensive and the filters can be used for approx 3 months. I bought mine at K-Mart. Definitely cheaper than buying the bottled water. Once I gave up the pepsi the pounds started falling off of me. I lost a total of about 26 lbs after my hyster and I attribute most of that to giving up the Pepsi. I have to admit though that in the past few months I have picked up the habit of drinking pepsi again, not nearly as much as I used to. I won't buy it by the 12 pack, but I will run down to the corner store and buy one can occasionally. I was just telling myself that I have to QUIT doing this, I notice that some of the pounds are starting to go back on Plus the caffeine kicks up the bladder spasms.
I am off to get a glass of WATER now
----------
It's a fact...
My OCMD is the one who insisted that I drink water or herbal tea only (not the dark stuff). My energy increased, my bladder pain started to diminish as did bladder spasms, and my anxiety decreased since there was no caffiene. I know it sounds like something that won't make a big difference, but after menopause you cannot get away with the things that you once could. My gramma used to say that "One day you can't get away with that" about just about all the bad things I did for my body (eating habbits, not drinking water, drinking sodas, etc) and she was once again absolutely right. After my tah/bso I just cannot get away with what I once could. I have to eat regularly, healthy, take supplements, drink lots of water, take my hrt and other meds on a regular schedule or else. And the else is fatigue, anxiety, bladder problems, pain (joint and otherwise).
I know it sounds like something so simplistic cannot make a difference, but all of these things (drinking water, exercising regularly, eating right, and supplements) are all things our parents and/or grandparents warned us we'd have to own up to one of these days. Well, guess what?! It's one of these days. It does make a difference and even if it's only 5-10% eventually enough 5-10% improvements will make you feel much better. There are no shortcuts on this kind of thing. There just aren't. As bad as we'd like for there to be...there just aren't.

Well, I think that moderation here is the key. Drink lots and lots and lots of water. And only a itty bitty bit of cola.
Kim M

Cold water is more difficult for the body to process so it works harder to do so. But icy cold is not so good directly after surgery as it can cause other symptoms to be worse such as gas. This is not the case tho once you have gotten all the anesthetic out of your system. How I found this out is I always, always drank super icy cold water. Well after surgery my body would not tolerate it and I would become gassy. When I switched over to just room temp water there was no problem. I am now back to my icy cold water.
One more good point is filtered water. There are very few places in the world that you can have the freshest of water right out of the tap. There are many chemicals put in our water to make it drinkable. These usually tase horrible. I lived one place in my whole life (Lewistown, Mt) where we had fresh spring water that ran through the city into our tap and yum!!!
So to be best to your body drink a distilled or purified water. We purchased several homes ago a culligan spicket purifier. It takes an extra hole in your sink but it is a tap that sends water thru it and is purified when it hits your glass. These only cost about $100 and does not take up space on your couter or in your fridge.
