I was 45 had I had my TAH/LSO. In 1999 I had asked my doctor for a routine medical check as I was beginning to have problems which had been ascribed to work-related stress. An abdominal scan revealed what was described as " a couple of tiny fibroids. Another test had also revealed high levels of stomach acidity. My doctor had said not to worry about the fibroids since they were tiny and the periods were not painful.

I had had normal periods which had suddenly become heavier in 2000. Then in 2001 the pains started and each month it moved higher on the pain scale. I managed to tolerate it until one day in May 2002, at a work function held in the city I was presenting a prize to a winner when a bystander told me that my skirt had a big patch of blood. That day the shame nearly killed me and I decided that I had to seek attention.

I was referred to a gynae who prescribed Depo Provera for trial; my blood count was low and I was scared of surgery. I was to go back after 3 months for the next jab. The next 3 months were living hell for me. The pain was unbearable, the clots got bigger by the day, the pain killers got stronger and I was bleeding every day of the week. Only throwing up gave me relief. Sometimes it was so bad I could not go to work.

Meanwhile my friends and family were worried sick as I battled with my fears of surgery and a prayer had been started to ask for the Lord's intervention. At the end of the three months I told the gynae I did not want another jab and asked for surgery. The fear had vanished. The pain the weekend before had been the worst. So I was booked in and had my TAH/LSO on Nov 7, 2002 and since then I have been pain-free and I can't believe that just a year ago I was very miserable.

It is a shame I never found this site before my surgery but I am glad I can still count on you support.

Love you all hyster sisters.
