Ask A Doctor
Once upon a time there was a girl who lived a very unhappy and painful life. No matter how hard her handsome prince tried he couldn't take make her pain away. After years of pain and numerous adventures in "alternative treatment" land being fogged in by the percoset haze the girl had had enough. The doctor told her the best answer to her problem was a TAH. She picked up her sabre and battled the evil insurance dragon and (after a mighty battle) captured the magical key to the the castle!!!
The day of her surgery the handsome prince helped her into his carriage at 5:30 in the morning as the dew began to settle on the trees. She was very frightened and kept hearing that Gloria Gaynor song "I will Survive" playing in her tousled blonde head. The sweet nurse at the preop desk got her settled in a waiting room, and before she knew it she was being wheeled in to preop by a very handsome and funny orderly. Her handsome prince was given a pager similiar to the ones you get while waiting for your table at restaurants, which she found funny and asked that she be prepared "well done". The handsome prince kissed her good-bye and promised to be there when she awoke. The nurses were very sweet and didn't hurt her at all as they inserted her IV and a charming country minister came to say a prayer for her. Her doc came in to chat with her and then the anesthesiologist came in. The Princess sang a fewe lines of "I will Survive" to herslef and then.... *Blink* That is the last she remembered!
The newly crowned Princess Kim awoke slowly in her room with two angelic nurses and her sweet Prince hovering over her. Her Prince had been very worried as her surgery had taken two hours instead of one. The doctors had found extensive endometriosis as well as an adhesion attached to her bladder. Much more than what they had thought were simply fibroids. It was storming outside which made the Princess smile as she so did adore a good storm. The Princess drifted in and out of napping and only was a tiny bit sore, thanks to the morphine pump that she kept a kung fu grip on! Over the next few hours the Princess was visited by her best friend and her Mother-in-law who both brought her beautiful flowers. A clear liquid diet was on the menu for the evening and the following day. Needless to say this Princess is tired of Jello!
At 7 a.m. the next day the doc came in and quickly ripped off the bandage covering her incision and 20 staples...then quickly pulled out the drainage tube that she hadn't even known were there!! She absolutely knew now! But that was the only owwie moment and it was over in a snap. The removal of the catheter came next and was a total breeze! All that worry for nothing. A parade of more friends and more flowers ensued throughout the day (yay!), as well as more jello!( Blech!) The nurses were spectacular (perhaps due to the giant candy basket that the prince brought in on her 1st night and the giant fruit basket he presented them with on the next morning!) and were always right there within moments from when she called them. Angels each and every one. A drowsy day ambled by with the Prince at her side every moment taking her on short walks and making certain she had everything she needed. The Princess was taken off morphine and put on Percoset which seemed to do the trick. Finally the Princess ordered the Prince home to their kingdom to get some rest. She even made it through the night without having to call for more pain killers.
The third and final day the doc's partner (who had assisted in surgery) came in and told the princess that she was "a very strong young lady" because her pain was completely validated and most likely had been constant. Due to the severity of her pain during her period it had only seemed that she was out of pain the rest of the time because it was of a lesser degree.
Now came the challenge. The Princess was informed that she MUST poop before she could leave the castle. The princess knew this would be tough as she had aversions to pooping in stranage potties. Gallons of juice and peppermint tea later the princess managed a tiny pass of gas. The wonderful nurse on duty listened to her tummy and smiled. She was homeward bound by 6 PM and promptly did the deed in her own potty upon arriving home. Yay! The Prince went out in yet another storm to get jello cups, juice, pudding cups and crushed ice as well as soup.
Now, 5 days post-op, the Princess is only having a problem with mild pain and lack of appetite, as well as perhaps a tad of constipation that will surely pass. Staying put and resting is the hardest part for this perky, peppy Princess but she will follow the rules. The staples come out tomorrow and then it will just be a matter of following the rules. The future actually looks bright and promising thanks to so many people. This Princess is guaranteed to live happily ever after!!
