Ask A Doctor
We arrived at the hospital monday (11-03)at 9 a.m. The nurse gave me a gown and a bag to place my clothes in. I jumped up on the bed and waited for the nurse to come in and start my IV. The first try was in my wrist with no luck. The second try went into the fold of my elbow which I was already bruised from them drawing blood from my pre-op testing.
Once the IV was started, the person next to me was getting sick. I don't know what came over me but I got really hot, my heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest and I told my husband LET'S GO!
He said, "Are you nuts??? You have cancer what do you want to do die? You'll be ok, just relax. " Easy for him to say, he is not the one who wakes up puking his guts out. My surgery was at 11 a.m. so at 10:20 the nurse says, they are ready for you. So he kisses me goodbye and off I go. They take me to this room where everything is cold and made from stainless steel. I was laying there freaking out again. A Dr. comes over and discusses how he is going to put me to sleep and I ask about a patch. I must say he wasn't the nicest guy and told me it wouldn't matter I would end up sick because they were going to be in my belly. A nurse comes about 15 minutes later and places a patch behind my left ear. She says "honey I am going to give you something to calm you down". The next thing I know, I am in my room. I didn't get sick and thought, "hey this isn't so bad".
The next morning, they took out my cath. and the boots on my legs.
All I was allowed was ice chips. Then the headaches started. They were so bad, I was puking and couldn't stop. This went on for 2 days. I kept telling them I get sick from headaches. I don't know how many shots I got in my thighs for headaches but I am all brusied up. I only hit my pump 3 times. I was able to come home wednesday as long as I could hold food down. I asked for a fruit tray because the smell of the other trays they were passing out was making me sick. I am glad to be home and hope for a speedy recovery.~Liz
