Well, I guess here goes my story..., I guess my problems or may I say past problems started after the birth of my daughter, after the tubal ligation in 1992. The heavy periods started and the heavy cramping. In 1997 I started Depro-Provera shot for the heavy periods, which did slow my periods for awhile, but I also suffered from TSS(Toxic Shock Syndrome) which landed me 2 nights in the hospital. My periods were irregular for a year, then tapered off. Then late 1999 they came back with a vengenance(sp?) which didn't stop until March 3 after having a D&C, hysterscopic examination, and endometrial ablation. I thought that was it, until May my periods came back! My doctor said they weren't supposed to be back and decided to get another ultrasound,(first done by my primary doctor and didn't find anything), this time my gyn seen fibroids and enlarged uterus, along with uterine prolaspe? At that time, he wanted to wait to see if the fibroids would die off from the ablation. Not even a month later, I started having chronic pelvic pain and leaking urine after walking alot. I seen him again in August 21st and we both decided to get it over with. He asked me what I wanted and I stated I did not want to be on pain pills every day. So we decided on TAH on September 28th. It seem like it took forever, and sometimes it seem like the time just flew. The 27th was preop and my son happened to get sick that day(nothing serious)The preop went well. That night I could not sleep that night. The next morning we got our 5 children off to school and went to the hospital to be there at 8am, once we got there, went to preadmission and then to lab to get my labwork done(this wasnt done at preop because of insurance) and then off to Same Day Surgery? I just started there and would be somewhere else after my recovery I was told. About 845am I was taken into "the holding area" after saying my goodbye's and kisses to my hubby and my family( two sisters, and mom). In the holding area, I remember the time being around 9am and the nurses starting my iv and giving me the 'happy drug' which included reglan for my acid reflux. It took three doses this time before I felt anything. The last surgery only took one dose as I can remember. I don't remember going into the surgery room, but remember seeing my doctor and getting a mask on my face and was told to breathe and that was it, the next thing I remember I was in recovery, the time was about 1:00 pm I think and being covered with warm, warm blankets!. I was given demoral in my iv for pain and kept dozing off. I stayed in there for 45min I was told and then off to my room( a private one!) My mom, my two sisters, my husband and my brother-n-law. I cant remember too much that day, havin demoral shots as I needed them, and I had a catheder in until that next morning along with oxygen on my noze which was annoying. I wasnt in alot of pain, enough to be aggravating. I was switched to toradol shot and then toradol pills along with Lortab7.5 when I need them. Which I didn't need them much except the day of my surgery and only nightime thereafter. Boy, I do like that Toradol! I was told I could loose the IV after 3 bags of antibiotics and 3 saline bags. I was sore and couldnt' move much the first night but by morning (430am) I got my catheder out! I was allowed up to go to the restroom finally about 730am Friday to go see if I could pee and I could! Friday afternoon, I was up and took a cruise around the floor. That was all I could take for then! By Saturday, I was doing better walking, but waiting for the to relieve me! My menu was clear liquids and full liquids after that nothing more unless I had gas and bm, which I finally did about 10am Saturday morning! My nurse called my doctor and he said if I was having BM then I could have anything I wanted! Roast Beef for Lunch and what they brought me for supper was awful, so I got cheeseburger and fries instead. Well, Sunday is here finally and I cant wait for they to release me! The nurse came in about 815am and asked me what time was I wanting to leave and I said how about now???? About 845 she said? I was out of there!!! I am one week postop and got my staples out today. I feel like a turtle but doing well on pain and the Getting better everday. Feel free to email me if any questions! lisageo@united.net
