Ask A Doctor
My DH and I arrived at the castle at 9:00 am 11/14/03 for a 10:30 LAVH/BSO. They called me back at 9:10. They put me in my gown, asked quetions, took vitals and started my iv. She was so nice. My DH and DD were than allowed to come back and wait until my time. The A man came in about 10:35. We talked and he said they were ready for me and he was going to have the nurse give me something in my iv to help me relax. She did and I did! I kissed DH and DD good bye and headed to OR. I remember going into the OR and looking around and than lights out. The next thing I remember is waking up in recovery and telling the nurse that I was sick. I don't think I actually vomited but I was so sick to my stomach. This surprises me since I have had quite a few general anesthesias and have never gotten sick. They told my DH that they were going to keep me in recovery longer to get the nausea under control. I got to my room (which was private!) at 3:30 pm. They kept me on oxygen and had me hooked up to the morphine pump. The only thing that really bothered me was the cath. I kept feeling like I had a full bladdar. I remember looking at DH and thinking I shoud stay awake, but I couldn't. About 7:30 that night I had some company. DH settled on his cot about 9:00. I slept fairly well that night. Most of my discomfort was the cath. Next morning at 8:00 they took me off of the oxygen. My doctor had to go out of town so I saw the Intern about 10:30. She said we could take out the cath and I could have clear liquids. Ya!!! They took out the cath (what a relief!) and I told them I had to use the bathroom. They got me up and I was able to pee on my own!! No problem with that at all! They brought me my liquid lunch which I drank and than promptly got sick. After that nausea passed, I felt pretty good. Did quite a bit of walking that afternoon. Had a liquid supper and did ok. Still had the pump but not using it. Was taking pain meds by mouth. Next morning I had a regular breakfast. No problem with that at all. The Intern came in about 8:30 and said I could go home. They took out my iv and got my discharge papers ready and away we went. The hospital staff were really good with me. Never had to wait for anything! I have been doing quite well since surgery. Get tired more easily but that's about it. I am on the Vivelle-Dot .1 mg patch and so far so good. I can honestly say the the waiting is the worst part. I also want to say thanks to all of my sisters. This site gave me so much information and support. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
