I am RONDA. I am 33, married for 10 yrs. to my jr.high sweetheart, after dating 9 years. We have a daughter, Bridget who is 7yrs. old and in 1st grade. We have boy/girl twins Garret and Courtney, who are turning 5 in 2 months. I am a nurse. I have been a stay @ home mom since my pregnancy with the twins. I only worked one day a week after Bridget was born. I am looking at going back into the work force after the twins start Kindergarten in August, on a VERY part-time PRN basis!
My female problems started becoming prevelant when I was 16. My periods just stopped all together, after being an every 28 day girl for 4 yrs. I was put on BCP's to regulate me. It did. But, mainly it just kept my symptoms of PCOS hidden for a few years! I started having VERY heavy, long cycles at age 18. I was diagnosed with Endometreosis/Adhesions when I had my first laparoscopy at 18. The GYN I was seeing at that time wanted to do a HYST on me!!! Needless to say, I switched GYN's!!! I went on to have a total of 6 laparoscopies, one open laparotomy with Presacral Neurectomy, Infertility,Very irreg. cycles, 4 D&C's for heavy bleeding......until FINALLY my GYN agreed we had done everything possible to avoid a hyst and now it was time! I was so relieved!!! I am thankful we switched from my orig. GYN, because we were blessed with our children!!!
During my TAH, it was discovered that my uterus was VERY weak, it ruptured as soon as my surgeon reached under to scoop it out. I had stopped having cycles about 2 yrs. earlier and assumed it was the PCOS acting up. Actually what they found in surgery was a "pocket of old blood" on the outside of the uterus, where he believes I may have had a hematoma with my emergancy c/section 4 yrs. earlier. (it is amazing that I wasn't in with an infection or septic!!!) He believes that my cycles were actually pooling into that pocket, since my ovaries were not in as bad of shape as he had expected them to be without a period in 2 yrs. The reason we let it go so long without inducing a cycle with any BCP's is that for some reason, my body would do opposite of what they wanted it to do...I would have to have D&Cs to stop the heavy bleeding! (FEAST OR FAMINE!!) I had a lot of adhesions and surgery took longer than he expected due to the endo and adhesions.
My TAH/BSO was Oct.3rd,2003. I ended up with a post-op hematoma, which I had to wait for it to resolve itself (5 1/2 LONG weeks!). I had a bladder infection. I started having Gallbladder attacks at THREE weeks post-op (didn't realize that was what it was then!) I threw up all night one night with horrible "gas Pain" it. The forceful vomitting led to my inc. opening some and becoming infected. ALL those antibiotics led to a Yeast Infection. I continued every few weeks having nights of misery with aweful gas pain...and finally after about 5 attacks, it dawned on me that it was my Gallbladder!!! I went in on New Years Eve day and had my Gallbladder and Appendix taken out, 12 weeks after I swore that my hyst would be the LAST time I would be on the OR table!!!!
I am glad I had my Hyst., even with all the complications I endured. I hope that by me having been through alot of the complications and female problems I have that I can help someone one else!!!
