Hello. I’m Annie. I’m a native Californian. I’ve been married for 27 yrs. to Pat whom I’ve known since 3rd grade.
In my past I’ve been a Peace Officer, a Medic, and a Search and Rescue K9 Handler and Communications Leader. But all that came to a screeching halt, when I got sick.
In 1997, I went to the Dr. for a period that would never end. I was diagnosed at that time with Hyperplasia and had an Endo. Biopsy; then a D&C with Hysteroscopy right away.
That worked for awhile and then it came back again, this time w/ a vengeance. I was no longer able to live my active life and was quite literally barred from wilderness work and play. Wild animals respond dangerously to “menstruation”. I could have been a danger to myself and my partners. How’s that for depressing?
I had another endo Biopsy and another D&C. Hysterectomy was mentioned.
It’s 2003. I’m still having a horrid time - but too stubborn (chicken) to “surrender” to a Hysterectomy. And what the heck is “Adenomyosis” with “Possible Endometriosis?” Are they really THAT bad????
I went to the Internet to find a "self cure". Under Hysterectomy, I found Hystersisters.com. I peeked in, and was heartily welcomed to the group. How could so many girls feel the same way as I did? It was all here! Hysterectomy or Not? - My Choice!! Keep Ovaries or Not? - My Choice!! All the while, I was still welcome to stay and ask and learn for as long as I needed. Hystersisters quickly passed chocolate to become my “favorite addiction.”
My Dr. was very communicative and very accommodating. My Hysterectomy went as we had planned on Sept. 30, 2003. Still being a control freak, I was allowed to stay awake under spinal anesthesia and actually enjoyed the whole experience.
My Sisters helped me by listening to me as an LIW and Hystersisters Resources provided me with tons of information. Between my Dr., His nurse, and all of my help here at Hystersisters, I have every confidence that my decision to have my Hysterectomy was one of the most well informed decisions of my life.
