Once upon a time there was a fifteen-year-old girl who was unlike her friends. Her friends had periods every month, however she only had periods every three months or she would bleed for months at a time. She grew up to be a beautiful young lady; she met a wonderful man; who of course treats her like a princess. Six years later she married this prince and knew she would live happily ever after. She was still having these problems and shortly after they were married her bleeding became worse. She went to a wonderful university hospital in her area that is rated extremely high. Her doctor told her that a D&C might be a good idea. At twenty-seven she underwent a D&C. That worked for a couple of months and then back to the normal abnormal heavy bleeding. Two years later the prince and princess thought about having children and went to an infertility specialist; another D&C and hysteroscopy- at this point she was diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). She did her research and tried all of the treatments. Finally another D&C was tried but again did not work. She was referred to an Endocrinologist who tried different treatment options but again nothing worked.

She went to see her family doctor and talked to him about all of her problems, he sent her to a new gynecologist and she was wonderful. She talked to the princess about all of her problems, her past history and told her about a procedure that could stop the bleeding but children would be out of the question. After so many years of pain and bleeding the princess decided to go to the castle to try the ablation that this physician spoke of. Three months later the princess was again back into her normal routine of bleeding and pain and called the physician over a holiday weekend while out of town and the physician called in some hormones to get her through the weekend and to come back and see her in a week or two.

The princess went to see her physician and they talked about the hysterectomy being the last option. The princess said let's do it as soon as possible. This physician scheduled the princess for June 28th; within three weeks of the consultation after the holiday. The princess called her family and told them of her decision and her family was very supportive of her. On the Friday before surgery she went into the clear liquid mode. She was on popsicles, chicken broth, and soda. Early Monday June 28th she went to the castle, her anesthesiologist was wonderful, he had been with her through the March surgery, her doctor held her hand while she went under with the anesthesia. She woke up in the recovery room with an angel by her side. Her nurse in recovery even joked about "princesses with french manicures need more attention". She was moved upstairs into her private room with her prince there waiting for her. She had a beautiful view of the downtown area from her bed; her nursing staff was so caring, catering to her every need. While dreaming she remembered one of her sisters saying the waiting was the worst part...it truly was. Her hospital stay was better than she could have ever expected, the nurses were great to her treating her like a true princess, they knew she was newly crowned and needed a little TLC. Two days later her prince picked her up from the hospital and in their chariot took her to her home.

Her doctor called that evening with her pathology, of course she was nervous because the doctor said that she would not be calling Friday but it was Wednesday. The doctor said everything was completely normal and that there was nothing to worry about. She wished the princess well and gave her cell phone and pager to the prince and said if the princess had any problems to feel free to call.

Nine days later the princess is drinking her water, resting and gaining her strength to be able to lead the team at work when she arrives back.

She thanks the Hyster Sisters web site everyday for the help and support they have given her through this five weeks, the waiting of before, the post op page for her healing time and all of the great women that are here to share stories.

And we know how this fairytale ends…the princess lives happily ever after…
