I was diagnosed with having a tumor on 06/15/04. My gyn recommended a hyster because of where she thought the tumor was located. The ultrasound revealed the tumor was on top of my uterus going down into my uterine cavity. Approx size of a grapefruit. I arrived at the hospital on 07/14/04 at 12.30 and was taken to a holding room with my family. There I put on those lovely white hose to my thighs and my gown and waited my turn. An hour later they came to take me to the operating holding room. My family said their goodbyes and husband began to cry.I had written a letter for them and gave it to them to read while I was in surgery. In holding room they tried to start my iv. It took 4 sticks to hit a good vein. They then started me on some antibotics and some I don't care meds. I honestly don't remember anything after that until I woke up in recovery 5 hours later. Surgery was 3 Recovery 2. I was in pain about an 8 they transferred me to my room (private and began to assess my pain. My Iv had infiltrated and they needed to start a new one so that I could have pain relief. They could not find a good vein so they put it in a vein by my ankle. After that they hooked up a PCA pump of Demoral and my pain relief then went to a 2-3 for the rest of my stay.I keep the catheter all night and the weird thing was I had an opposite reaction to the demoral it keep me awake and wanting to talk. My husband said I talked more to him that night than I had all year.HA HA The next morning I got up to go to bathroom. Very hard, made me a little sick to my stomach, urine did not flow like before . It took forever to pee it all out.Husband gave me a warm soap no rinse bath and took great care of me.Nurses were great throughout stay. Did not start reg foods until day I was released as I had not passed gas. I ended up that I had two tumors. 1 grapefruit size and 1 golf ball on both ovaries. It was a ovarian delmoid teratoma. Path report not back yet but praying will be okay. I will not lie this surgery is tough. But keep your spirits up and you will get through it. I am exactly 1 week post op and I tire very easily. Had a TAH/BSO with no hormone replacement as that is not an option for me. So far no menopause symptoms . Yippee
