Hi, I think its time to share my journey. I'm 51 And have been very happily married for 32 years to my high school sweetheart. We have 3 married children and 7 grandchildren,(1 little grandaughter is in heaven waiting for us to join her).I've always had normal periods up until about age 46 when they started to get heavyer. I just felt that was a normal part of getting closer to menopause.I always donated blood and about 4 yrs.ago they told me I could'nt give anymore. I began to feel myself tire alot sooner, and having 5 grandchildren under 5yrs. that I love taking care of I really was wearing down.In Oct. of 1999 my Gyn.suggested trying Birth control pills to try to slow my bleeding.I really felt stressed on them but stuck with them. In April of this year I all of a sudden had higher than normal BP.My Gyn said to stop the pill because they could be the cause.I was due to get my period a few days later but it didn't start.3 weeks later it started with a vengence. It almost makes me sick to think back.Ilitterally hemmorage bleed ( went through 250 super plus tampons,lg.pk.overnight pads and clothes ,bedding etc.)I had visits with my Gyn sometimes twice a week.I was put on Progestrene to help . My Gyn Knew I didn't want to even hear about surgary. He finally convinced me that a D/C was necessary. He then put me on a stronger pill to stop the bleeding. By this time my blood count was 10.2.I Had an ultrasound that showed a fibroid tumer about 7 cm.The dr. told my DH that he really felt surgary was the best choice.I didn't want to hear it. I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. I felt like a witch on the pill (and I was still having breakthrough bleeding)And I knew if I waited too long I'd bleed to death. What a choice UGH! I went and talked to a very dear friend(who just happends to be a nurse) and she had a hyst.about 10yrs ago.She confronted me with the question, Are you enjoying life this way? She said her Hyst was the best decision she had made. I left her home with a changed heart. I prayed alot about this decision and really felt Gods peace about the decision but I was still scared to death about surgary.I always remembered my Grandma telling a story about one of her surgary's when she heard the Dr. say cut. That just stuck in my mind.It took a month until We could schedule my surgary Dr.was going on vacation and I didn't want to go with any of his associates. The weekend before I was still really stressed and scared.I felt Jesus say to me Trust me I'll carry you through this. And He did. I was at total peace the morning of surgary. Every thing went well.I had a Tah/bso.I used Morphine pump for about 6 hrs. then switched to oral meds. Went home 2 days later with Tylonol 3 which I used for about 2 more days then I switched to Advil. I'm a real woos when it comes to pain so I felt really great because I was expecting to have alot of pain and I didn't really have any.I had 2 experiences of bladder spasms.Super OUCH. Found out real quick not to drink alot after 8:00 pm. I listened to Dr. and got lots of rest and didn't lift(hard to do when little arms are lifted to Nana)for 6 weeks. At my 4 week check my Dr. gave me the green light to get back slowly to my normal activities. I was given a shot of homones in the hospital and then I started to use the Vivelle dot 1mg.which I change 2 times weekly. I continued to exercise caution in lifting for another 2 weeks. I took Slo-Fe for a month after surgary. I just had blood work done a few weeks ago and my blood count is up to 14.5 the best its been in 5 yrs. Praise God. I feel better than I have in I can't remember how long. And for all you LIW who worry, like I did, about Not having a good sex life after Hyst. I'm here to tell ya God blessed me there too.I really found a lot of help at this site but had to remove it from my desktop because I found myself sitting at the cumputer instead of being out there liveng my new and better life. Thanks for being there when I need the support though. This is a wonderful place to find comfort and tons of knowledge.I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas And remember that CHRIST is the reason for the season. In his love,Bev
