Well my stay at the castle was ok. I was scheduled for an 8:30am surgery, but had to be at the hospital at 5:30am. They told me where I should go and get into a hospital gown (now ladies we all know how fabulous these look on us...gag...LOL) and well it didn't tie at the top, so I asked the hubby to fix it some how and he tried, and finally when I got down to the pre op area, I told the nurse and she said we'll just get you another one....well at this point I already have my IV in, which she blew the vein out in my right hand, so had to use my left hand, and the nurse that was helping me to get into another gown called for someone to bring her scissors. That nurse came in and didn't understand why my nurse would need scissors, as the tape tears easily. Then she stood there wide eyed and was amazed that my nurse just cut the gown off of me...lol Hey, I didn't care, I just wanted something that wasn't falling off of me all the time. Anyway, when I first arrived they told me that my doc was running late, as he had a emergancy c-section, and I told them that it was fine, I have been one of those. He had come in at 8:15 am and asked if I was ready to go, and I said, yep, no turning back now', to which he replied, yes there is, you can choose to not have the surgery, I told him I've waited too long for this and we needed to get it over with NOW! He laughed. Before they wheeled me out of the pre op area, they put some kind of 'cocktail' in my IV, I could of cared less if they just told me I was already done and I was doing fine...lol That stuff was awesome!! LOL Told the hubby by, told him I would see him when I came back to my room....and kissed him bye.
Now they told me that the surgery would only take between 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes. It was over 2 hours as my uterus was growing into my bladder, and they had to remove it and carefully handle everything. I did get to keep my left ovary, which I was happy about, but I don't know if it just takes over for everything else just starts to work, and of course I forgot to ask the doc if he sewed the cervix closed or what the deal is with that. I will when I see him next week. We had discussed the removal of the cervix, but I chose to keep it, because no matter what he said that I would still have to have a yearly exam to make sure that I wasn't having any other problems and to also keep an eye on my lower abdomina area! Well after surgery and they woke me up (not too happy about that, could of used a lil more sleep without remembering anything) and they asked me about pain, said I had alot of it, they gave me a shot of demorol. Then brought me back to my room. I got in the room and I moved onto the bed....(not a fun job mind you) and saw the hubby and he told me everything that doc said, and the doc said that I wouldn't remember anyway, and he'd have to tell me again the next day...nope, I still remember ! After awhile they came in (time was a confusion for me, as they didn't have a clock in there) and asked me how my pain was and I said it was still very high, gave me another shot of demerol. I guess sometime later, it was a nurse change, and I called for the nurse, as I wanted a heating pad for my back, because it hurt so bad! They told me no, because after surgery they want the blood to clot, and it would make the blood too thin... I wasn't happy! So the new nurse asked why I didn't have a pain button, said I was never offered one, so she called the doc and told the doc, he told her ok, and also got a dose of torodol for my back. That was the greatest thing in the world!!! I had a total of 6 injections of torodol into my IV and the pain button was my friend, but I just never knew if I was hitting it enough....which at one point they said I wasnt'...duh....should of realized, but I was out of it..lol So when they had to change the thing for the morphine the nurse didn't put it in right, so the next morning when the nurses changed shifts, my day nurse asked if I had pain, I said yes, and she said no wonder, the medicine was going on the floor!! <gasp> what a waste of good morphine!!! LOL Anyway, I hadn't had anything to eat since Monday night at exactly midnight....(I happened to wake up at 11:45pm) and said why not have something to eat..lol I made it easy, some cereal, and then went back to bed, until the alarm woke me at 4am! YUCK! So when the doc came in on Wednesday morning, he asked how I was tolerating the clear liquids....? I said...'what liquids'? I've only had ice chips all night! He got me some food very soon!!! That same day, I was given a suppository to get rid of some of the gas....I would of done it on my own, but hey, I wasn't even given the chance!!! Also at that point they took out the cathatier<sp> and I was more than willing to get up out of the bed and go to the bathroom on my own....plus with the high blood pressure meds I take they keep my fluid down in my body, so just as I was about to get comfy(if one can in a hospital bed) I would have to get up and go again, and it wasn't alot, but atleast I was going. I don't remember having the swelly belly until I came home, but then just doing anything was and still is a major issue with me and I tire easily. In fact, I'll probally be paying for being up as much as I have been today, (lots of visitors) and I'll probally sleep well, atleast I hope so...lol The nurses and other staff were really good to me, so I can't say anything bad about it, and so far, the kids (not so much the hubby) have been good about helping me, and they know I can't do things yet, and that I do tire easily, but I'm thinking by the end of this week they are going to be tired of trying to figure out things to do for dinner, oh well, they have a dad, let him help them, I'll find something that won't hurt later when it has to come out the other end....lol Hubby was there when I got out of surgery, brought my two youngest kids up to see me, then went home, and then proceeded to go play cards at a friends house (the same friend he had just spent the last saturday night I would be home before surgery) to play cards. I also found out he did that on Wednesday night also after coming up to see me. I think Thursday night he stayed home, because he had fire fighting the next day, but when I came home on Friday (my oldest daughter brought me home, thank goodness she drives) he instead of opting for the couch, because I told him that he would not be able to sleep with me, he moves way too much in bed, and my one daughter was gone and my oldest daughters two guy friends that flew in on the 7th of August were flying out the next day, and they had my son's room and my oldest shares a room with my youngest and it would of just been one evening my son would have to stay in my youngests room and he was fine with it, but my husband said he'd rather go to his friend Zach's, and has been on a weekend with this same person fishing. I'm not crazy about not having my husband around for important things like my coming home from the hospital and staying around, hell he could of made a pallet on the floor in our room if I needed anything, but nope, I had to rely on myself to do things in the middle of the night. Anyway, enough of that, I could go on and on, and on, and on........but I'm sure y'all need to get some sleep.....lol I'm off to go to bed very soon myself, my back is hurting and I need to get some rest! All in all, my surgery and recovery have been good I'm glad I did it, and hopefully a few weeks, months, years down the road I'll still have this outlook....Good luck to the ladies waiting to go to the castle! Good healing vibes being sent up for those that are just now recovering and continued good thoughts and prayers being said for all my hystersisters!!! Y'all are awesome!!!
