HI all,
This is the first I have been able to get on the computer since leaving the Castle.
Not because I couldn't but my DH hasn't let me do a thing except lay around and be waited on...he's been GREAT!
I had Lap. abdominal surgery 2 months ago and he didn't do all I wished he would have...this time he is REALLY making up for it. My last surgery I had general anesteshia (I can't spell) and had a real hard time with it. I was in the hospital 3 days for a sameday (yeah, right) surgery. They collapsed a lung and the pain was intense to say the least.
This time I opted for an epideral w/ twilight sleep. WHAT A DIFFERANCE! I would highly reccommend it. I heard almost everything that was going on, some I wanted to hear some I didn't. I remember hearing tools drop and I told the anest. "I hope they don't pick those up"
I had the Anest. laughing at me a few times.

I sorta felt them tacking up my bladder then I heard the Dr. say" Now we are going to work on the rectum" The Anest. gave me more twilight stuff( THANK YOU!) and next thing I remember was waking up with a start saying " Oh No, I missed a kid" (I'm a school bus driver) The whole team laughed and told me not to worry that they would go back to pick him up. What a story to tell at work. I also remember being very cold. Tell them to crank up the temp first or get ALLOT of those great hot blankets ready. I also remember that the OR was very small and that there were about 8 people in there...geeze...8 people now know what my "best" parts look like , lucky me.

I was then wheeled to recovery and was there for what seemed like only mins. since I was fully wake. Then off to my room in the PEDS ward. I thought this was wierd too but I was glad to be there...nurses where GREAT! I had a cathater in and I really wasn't in much pain.
The epi. was still in and remained until the following afternoon. I don't know what good it did since it was leaking and the pain med was going though onto my bed. Even though the pain was bearable. The Dr. removed my packing on day 2 and let me tell you "IT HURT LIKE HELL!" Like she was removing sandpaper...allot of it...OUCH! I was so relieved after it was gone. The only pain or pressure I felt was from that and the fluided that were pumping into my bladder though the IV. The Cath. came out next morning...I went pee twice, they reinserted it and I only had 50cc residual pee left. They told me that 125cc is the magic # that would make the cath. stay in another day. I passed and it came out to stay. I was free to go as soon as DH got there which didn't happen till 6:30pm . He got held up at work...3 hours away. NP, I was looking forword to the lunch and dinner I had chosen. Believe it or not our hospital has really great food. I was a bit upset that DH forgot my pillows to sit on for the 30 min. ride home but my favorite nurse gave me a flatish stuffed bear that has proven to be my best friend. I call him my "BUTTY BEAR" I don't think a ring would have been as comfortable, all in all, as this bear has been. I am planning to make many of them, only stuffed with buckwheat hulls, for X-Mas presents.

The ride home was ok...even the 45min wait at the drug store for my pain meds and mineral oil was ok. I was on Lortab liquid due to my previous surgery where I am still affaird to get pills down. This works great but I have found that it may cause nausia in the first dose...this too shall pass

I arrived home to find DH didn't mess things up to badly. My beautiful and still faithful cocker spaniel was there to greet me.
I even think he remembered that he couldn't jump on me from the last surgery.....he's soooo sweeet...I may post pictures.

I went staight to bed on DH's orders...ok by me..I'm pooped.
Took my Lortab and slept til 10am...WOW!! I guess I was tired. I didn't even have to pee. I was thinking..." IS this what I have to look forword to now...A full nights sleep w/o a potty stop..WOW!"
I'm liking this already. I called to DH (his orders) to help me up to go pee and I have to tell you I didn't really need him....I didn't tell him. He helped me the 10 steps to the potty and waited outside the door. What a sweetie....did he think I was going to fall in or something....not with this big behind...I think NOT!

Now it's day 4(thurs) and my friends and family came to visit. By 2:30 I was beat! I slept another 4 hours, eat dinner and then back to sleep for the night. DH kept water glass full and I had everything I needed close by...I still had to ring for those trips to the potty.
BTW...I used my cell phone to call his...he didn't want to hear any stupid bell....good choice.

OK, the part noone talks about, BMs. I was taking 2 TBL. of mineral oils 2X a day till I had one. Drs. orders. I also drank hot water, suggested by dear friend, and I finally had one then two on thursday. WOW, what a relief, it really didn't hurt. Untill then I remembered the 2 min rule, if you don't go in 2 min, get up. I found that leaning forward, elbows on knees, and relaxing really helped.
I still take stool softeners and drink Hot water now and then but I stopped the mineral oil. It really isn't that bad to get down. I put it in a small medicine cup...bottoms up then drank hot water after.

I have had a bit of a discharge and it is a bit smelly...I have consulted with a friend that had TVH one week prior to mine and she is having same so I am guessing this is normal. I go to Dr. this morning...you bet I am going to ask.

Well, I am feeling the need to get off my Butty Bear now and go back to bed.

HUGS to ALL
I hope this story answers a few ?? you may have...please feel free to email me...love to hear from you. I will only have full use of computer for next week but can find ways to get online occasionally after that.
Karen
