My problems started about 5 years ago. Dh and I were having sex and I felt a pain that was so bad I screamed! Went to the doc and they found a cyst on my right ovary the size of a golf ball. The doc remarked "you know it didn't get that size overnite" as if to imply that I should have come in sooner. I guess that I am so use to pain, I have alot of digestive, stomach problems, that I usually just shrug it off. Anyways, I had a laprascopy and they removed the cyst and "supposedly" the right ovary. More on that later. I was fine for about a year and than the pains returned, along with swelling, cramping, excessive bleeding. Went back to the doc and they detected more cysts, this time on the left side. Another surgery, saved the left ovary. Still the pain persisted, than had another surgery (not sure that is was called) but they sliced me open across the abdomen and supposedly cleaned me up, I was off work for 6 weeks. Was never the same afterwords, wound wouldn't heal, had to see a specialist, reopened me, packed me in. LOL
Anyways, started my period and bled, bled, bled for 3 weeks, finally had to have a D&C to stop the bleeding. Still pain, pain and more pain. Finally went to another doc. This one put me on anit-depressants. Oh yeah, that worked for about a week. Went to another doc, she found cysts, etc but told me "you know every time you have surgery you take the risk of dying". Oh yeah, like I really wanted her to touch me. DH finally located me a good doc, had to have another surgery, left ovary was completely devoured by a cyst and left fallopian tube was clubbed (totally blocked), had to take both. It was than that I learned that the first doc had only taken 1/2 of my right ovary not the whole thing has he had told me for the last 3 years!!!
Still pain, pain, pain. No relief in sight. Finally doc said, "no more" it all comes out. Sigh! Finally. May of 1999 was my date, and they took everything, the 1/2 of an ovary I had left, uterus, and cervix. Leave nothing to chance. Surgery went fine, recovery was good. Now my only problem is slashing thru the hormone jungle. But things are getting better, I feel as though I am on the right track.
My only regret is that I did not find this sight until AFTER my surgery. My hope is that I can help some of the women who are still facing this surgery.
Hugs -)) and prayers and thank you's for reading my story. Of course this is the abbreviated version.
