| Abdominal Hysterectomy TAH/BSO - "Camelot" after, spinal anesthesia and no sedation! |

Greetings to all my Hyster Sisters in the Land of Hyster! As this site has provided me with invaluable information and support in the decision leading to my TAH/BSO performed last Thursday, 03/02/00, and as I have read very little in the way of other Princesses who have chose to attain their "crown" in the manner I have chosen, I decided to share my story!
Over the last seven years since the birth of my youngest child, I have experienced absolute female reproductive hell .... I had periods that lasted from 10-12 days (requiring me to bathe in the middle of the night on at least 2 of those 10-12 days), with only 10 days in between those periods (keep in mind that 5 of those days were "PMS days"), leaving me with only 5 "good" days a month. I had visited with several WOMEN gynecologists and family doctors over the years, hoping that the female "bond" thing would somehow perform it's magic and that these women would "wave their magic wands" over me and my troubles would be over .... Alas, to this princess' dismay, this never occurred .... Finally, about a year ago, my TRUE Hyster Sister (Lori - TVH/BSO 02/17/00) discovered our "knight in shining armour" - Dr. Tierney - who offered to carry us off into the sunset on his horse, and promised us "Camelot" in the Land of Hyster ..... We gladly jumped on board and have never looked back!
As I had experienced 2 surgeries (besides this TAH/BSO) since last August (a lumbar laminectomy and a shoulder reconstruction), and had been forced to undergo general anesthesia in both of those cases, and as I had given birth to my 3 beautiful children via C-section deliveries and felt I knew what to expect, I chose (with Dr. Tierney's approval, OF COURSE) to undergo this procedure with a spinal anesthesia and, at the time of surgery, also chose to use no sedation. I did, however, manage to use some meditation in dealing with the situation and was able to "remove" myself from the situation through meditation. In retrospect, I have never once regretted this decision. Although I did feel a great deal of pulling, tugging, nausea, and at one point, Dr. Tierney's hands up under my ribs looking for scar tissue, I would do it again in a minute -- well, maybe a bit longer than a minute .... We did have a problem in surgery with vasovagal nerve sensitivity producing a reaction where my heartbeat slowed and I required medication to "pump" things up a bit, which was scary, but I am glad to say, lasted only a short time. I would, however, have definitely asked for pain control BEFORE the spinal anesthestic wore off, as I did have a difficult time playing "catch up" with the pain before we got on top of that cycle. After learning that lesson, I remained on top of that cycle of pain and have felt absolutely wonderful, with none of the post-anesthesia nausea or "fog". I spent only 2 days at the castle, and Dr. Tierney agreed to "lower the drawbridge" and let me go back to my "village" on Saturday. I came home on oral HRT which was started in the hospital and I have to say that I haven't felt this great -- physically and EMOTIONALLY (hurray!) for a long, long time .....
Thanks to my Hyster Sister, Princess Lori, our "knight in shining armour," Dr. Tierney and to the words and wisdom of this site for making my journey to the "Land of Hyster" so much easier to handle .... I truly am grateful to have my crown in place ....
