Hi, I'm Peggiesue and was born and raised in northern NJ, actually only 10 miles for NYC. During the course of my 30 years in a job I loved - the US foreign service - I've traveled widely and lived mostly in large cities here and abroad. After retiring in December 2000 my husband of 14 years and I settled down in an old (several years shy of 100) rambling Victorian house in a very small town located in the heart of former Va. tobacco country. I married later in life and we never had children but over the years we've been adopted by a number of furry creatures and presently have 5 indoor cats & 2 dogs ranging in age from 1 year to 9 years who help to make our house a home.
While I enjoy the freedom of retirement, after 30 plus years in the workforce and still blessed with a high energy level, I found I also needed some outside activity/outlet with the work world so I do volunteer work at a local hospital and at a prison a couple days of the week. I truly get more from these jobs than I give. Among the things I love best, and in no particular order, are nature, surfing (computer of course), my pets, HS, car trips, walking, talking with my 6 year old grand-niece, sweets (unfortunately), books, music and my family and friends.
In Summer 2003 I had several tests done because of very slight post-menopausal bleeding and received a DX of complex hyperplasia with atypia the scary comment - "cannot rule out cancer." As an "info freak, " I immediately got on the INTERNET, including several hysterectomy sites, and received a reply from a very caring woman. In one email exchange with her, she included a strong recommendation that I check out the Hystersisters site. BTW, I never had an operation before and was determined to avoid one at all cost so this was the focus of my first queries on HS. From HS I gained important information on my condition and, most important to me, heard and learned from other women who had similar DXs. I also followed the oft repeated suggestion that when one feels uncertain re surgery, get a second and even third opinion.
When all 3 doctors told me to have the surgery, I finally let reason rule and after perusing many HS posts re post-op pain, recovery time, etc. even became more confident re having the operation as the time neared. My "possible cancer" Dx and operation were only a few weeks apart and that was good since the pathology during the operation showed I had a very early stage endometrial cancer and the doctors believe the surgery was the cure
I am positive that without the encouragement and support I found on HS, I probably would have delayed this operation and the cancer may have progressed and I remain so grateful to have found this very special site. In February 2004, Kathy asked if I would like to become a hostess; I consider this a great honor and a way to possibly give back just a tiny bit of what HS has done for me. Please don't hesitate to email me if I can be of any help.
