Barbara's TAH/Colon repair 11/10/99

My story started in September when i got my period that decided to stick around for awhile. My doctor had given me birth control pills to start taking which i did and all they did is make me bleed harder. So after 7 days i called my doctor went in and explained the problem. She suggested the depo shot so i
had her give me that. Again the bleeding became harder, and after two weeks now i called her again and went in this time she gave me hormone pills to take that would stop the bleeding, but it did nothing but become harder i was now going through 10 to 15 pads a day also found out i was anemic so started
taking iron. After three weeks of the same game i called her again this time she felt i needed an endo biopsy and an ultrasound the endo was very painful which she found strange and the ultrasound showed nothing. So she ordered the Lupron shot which i was told would stop the bleeding all together. Gee what a surprise when it didn't work. She said a hysterectomy was the only thing left so it was scheduled for 11/10/99. The funny thing is the bleeding never stopped till the day she took out the uterus. I had to be there a 6am and surgery was at 8am they took me right back when i got there they did all the normal things and then my husband and mother were allowed to come back to be with me.They decided to take me back at 7:30 since i was the first major surgery that morning gee what am honor. They took me back and everyone was great i wasn't nervous at all. My doctor said good night and that was that.

I don't remember recovery at all i woke up in my room where hubby was waiting for me. He told me i had complications so i had to stay in the hospital longer then expected. My 2 hour surgery had become 4 hours due to my doctor cutting my colon and having to call in another surgeon to fix the mistake. Had a few bumpy times with a nurse but other wise after 6 days of IVs and antibiotics i was ready to go home. I begged the doctor to please let me go home so i was released, got home and slept a lot better. Had a few complications at home, but finally after almost 6 weeks i'm starting to feel great. I could have never gotten through all this with out my sisters.

Thank you and i love all of you.
