I will give you the short version or
we might end up with a novel here.

Why The Hyst: Fibroids for 5 years and
a large apple size cyst on overy. Cramps,
heavy bleeding, and very large uterus,
Yada, Yada, Yada

Pre-Hyst: Found this site 2 weeks before,
LOVED IT! and found out so much info. Week
before surgery went into cleaning mode at
home.(even drawers) Packed my bag for the
big day.

Surgery Day: Surgery at 8AM, be there at
6:30. Leave home at 5:30 with hubby. Had
the feeling of wanting to get this over
with. Sent to pre-op to get ready. My
nurse was an older women who looked close
to retirement. I liked her immediately.
She called me Kid (43?) It was Kid put on
the gown, Kid read and sign these papers,
Kid everything. She brought me a warmed
up blanket that felt soooooo good. I
watched TV till time for surgery.

7:55 Now in the operating room. Looking
around. Several people in there already.
A Dr. comes in and says Hi to everone. WAIT!
This isn't my Dr., I wonder if I'm in the
wrong room. I'm starting to sweat and get-
ting ready to ask this Dr. who he is and
why he is in my operating room, when he
leans over and says "Hi Susan, I'll be
assisting your Dr. today. Felt like I just
dodged a bullet. 8:20 my Dr. comes in. I
like him but I wanted to grab him by the
shirt and say "Where the heck were you?"
But, instead I manage a weak smile,
seconds later I was out...

Recovery: Sorry, I cannot remember any of this at all.

11AM: Waken up to get off gurney into
bed. Look at clock. Hubby is there. I
have IV, catheter, and Morphine Pump.
Sleep, sleep, sleep. Every 2 hrs a
young male tech (I have shoes older than
this guy) comes in to take my vitals.
This is annoying to be woke up, but it
is their job. No pain the morphine pump
is a GOOD THING.

Day 2: 11:30AM-Catheter out, IV out,
bye-bye morphine pump. Take shower.
3:00PM nurse asks me if I had any luck
"going" yet. I say no and she informs me
if it doesnt't happen soon catheter will
go back in. I go to the bathroom and
turn on faucet(this sometimes helps).
No luck, 5 minutes go by and I get up
and turn on shower (going for the monsoon
effect) sit back down, minutes later I
pee. Yeah, no catheter for me! (nurse
outside door cracking up)

Day 3: Shower in morning. Jello for break-
fast. Beg Dr. to go home. At 5PM get
sandwich, if it stays down, Dr. says I
can go home at 7PM. Hubby comes and picks
me up. I leave the nurses (all great) a
thank you note and candy. Leaving felt
sooooo great even though I couldn't zipp
my pants.(swelly belly)

Conclusion: I can't belive I will soon be
6 months post. I really wish I would of
had surgery sooner. Life will never be
perfect, but today it is pain free!!!
Stay positive, and celebrate life!
