Ladies, the waiting truly is the hardest part! I arrived at the castle at 5:30am Wed 1/12 for my 7:30 surgery.

I was sent to a private area to dress into a beautiful backless cotton gown. I was asked questions, given alot of information and a lovely wrist band to wear. My DH and I waited about 15 minutes more and had a chance to tell each other "I love you" several times before I was taken to the OR prep area.

I was then given a bed and the nurses came by to talk to me. I told the A man I'd like something for nausea and he also informed me he would be inserting a breathing tube down my thoat after I was out. I was wheeled into OR where they put pump boots on my legs to prevent clotting. The A man came in asked where my Dr. was and told me he would be starting my IV soon. I heard one of the nurses page my Dr., don't remember anything after that!

The recovery nurse got mad at me when I kept saying "help me I can't breathe". She said oxygen levels were good and I was breathing fine. She gave me a few ice chips and a swab for my lips. I kept insisting I couldn't breathe and now I'm sure I was only having a hard time swallowing because of the tube that had been down my throat, I was so groggy I couldn't tell the difference!

DH was waiting in my room, I was very glad to see him. The nurses gave me a morphine shot, water, IV. DH stayed for a couple of hours then I told him to go home because I just wanted to rest.

The next day was a whirlwind! 5:00am last morphine shot, 6:00am catheter & IV out, oxygen mask & boots off! The nurse said ok now we're going to get you up - YIKES! I felt quite dizzy so she helped me back to bed and said we'd try again in a couple of hours. At 7:00am the Dr. removed my bandage (aka tape from he**) and said everything looked great! He had removed a cantelope sized fibroid weighing almost 3 pounds and said I was going to feel alot better. The nurse got me up 3 more times Thurs (each time was it got easier) and I was passing gas and eating small amounts of real food, fruit & yogurt for breakfast, salad for lunch and a turkey dinner.

An argument began that evening with the night nurse who said I was supposed to take a stool softener and laxatives. I refused saying I know my own body and it wasn't necessary. I really shine in this area, I had my first BM the next night after I was home. I've been regular every day since. Well everyone's good at something right?!?

The next morning the Dr. came by early, removed my staples and said I could go home whooooopeeeeee! I was dressed and sitting in the corner chair when my DH arrived and was so happy to be going home! My surgery went very well and the care I received in the castle was excellent. I'm happy to be on the other side 11 days post-op ready to begin a new chapter in my life!!

Best wishes and hugs to all of you!
