Just wanted to share my view of a hysterectomy--hope it makes you smile.

I ate and ate, and ate too much
And food became my only crutch.
My jeans were getting oh so tight
Because I ate from morning to night.
I was getting oh so fat, way to fat for me,
But then Dr. Weber said, "you need a hysterectomy."
I thought to myself, "Now, that's not so bad."
Not having my period will not make me sad!"

I only got liquids after my surgical ordeal,
Does the hospital really call that a good meal?
Without hesitation or taking a breath
I tried my liquid diet until nothing was left.
But soon it was clear that it wasn't meant to be
To stay in my stomach, but come up for all to see.
My husband watched patiently while I proceeded to puke.
I guess he was thinking, "She's really not so cute!"

One's dignity is gone while wearing a vaginal pack,
And what makes it even worse is the catheter sack.
But the wonderful nurses had a way of showing
That you're still pretty special though you're not glowing.
There were blood pressure checks and temps way too often
But the Percoset & Motrin helped the pain to soften.
Just how in the world did they make me gain weight
When there was nothing but liquids each day on my plate.

Little did I know that my days of flowing
Have not ended yet because of the sewing.
I look forward to the day when I can say
"Throw out my pads, they're just in my way."
From headache to nausea, to pressure and pain.
Sometimes I feel I'm not making much gain.
From constipation to urinating way too long,
I realize I'm human and not all that strong.

A prolapsed uterus is not much fun,
But neither is recovery which I've still not won.
I work hard everyday ust trying to heal,
And have yet to get up and make a decent meal.
I thought my healing would be one long vacation
But boy, oh boy, what stupid expectations.
It's been two long weeks and I still feel crappy
And I'm wondering how long until I feel happy.

I should be back on my feet and not feel so bad
It's ony a vaginal hysterectomy that I had had.
I wished many times for the pain to be gone--
It's taking longer than I thought, again I am wrong!
But, I have nowhere to go and only have time
To sit here each day making words that rhyme.
The pain & the pressure I could do without,
So I'll just sit on the couch & continue to pout.

Be careful what you wish for--it just might come true,
Then you, too, can create your own Hyster "Sister" View.

(It's now been almost 7 weeks, and, yes, I am doing much
better now. I wanted you to know that there is light at
the end of the tunnel. I had the most wonderul and patient doctor and husband. Yes, I still tire fairly easy and am still working on buildng my strength. But remember you must take care of yourself first. Don't do too much--everyone had to keep reminding me of that!)
