blue Hello, I had my surgery on February 23rd. I know.... what took me so long? My computer is upstairs and when I was able to come up I couldn't log on. Anyways, my story goes like this:

I was so scared the day before the surgery. Once I arrived at 6:30 am I was calm but more scared about the IV then the actually surgery. My nurse was superb. I hate needles but I didn't feel a thing when she put it in. They gave me the relaxing medicine and the next thing I know I am in the recovery room. I didn't feel a thing. I was starving for sure. There were no rooms in the Inn so they sent me across the street to the other hospital. I took a little ambulance ride. Very exciting because it was a warm day and I could feel the sun on my face as I was being lifted into the ambulance.

I had a nice private room with a great view of a beautiful red brick building. Hey, I wasn't here for the scenery. My best friend and her husband as well as my husband were there to greet me with flowers.

In the middle of the night I had them take those leg vibrators off. LOL They were making my legs hot and itchy as if I was wearing casts and I had nothing to scratch the itch.

By morning I was wondering if I really had surgery or was this a big joke. NO PAIN. A little crampy but that was it UNTIL....the gas set in. Then once I realized it was mostly muscle spasms causing most of the gas I knew how to treat. Yup, pain relieving pills. Got have them. I had eggs, grits, coffee and apple juice for breakfast. I had already been eating crackers through the night. I was released and home by 1 pm the next day. It is so nice to be home. There you can sleep.

I had gained 15 pounds and it took 3 days to get back to my regular size. Which means if you bring your own underwear to the hospital they will not fit. Trust me! Use their stretchy ones and ask for a new one before going home.

I took little walks around the house. I had a basket of fruit next to me among other healthy snacks and lots of beverages, (Vernor's ginger ale mostly) and hot tea.

Things I learned that helped me recover quickly: Use the breathing appratus. Very helpful.. Take Milk of Magnesia, have movies available and reading material so you can relax. I crocheted a bit and even worked on my scrap booking in bed (I had that all prepared) Take little walks daily even if it's just from one side of the house to the other. Take your meds and follow the directions of your doctor. Wear comfy clothes and have a family that will move when called. LOL

I believe I had a great doctor. I had my uterus and cervix removed. I got to keep my ovaries and the doctor gave us pictures of my insides (gall bladder and liver) and said I was a very healthy girl all around. Yeah. I visit him this Thursday for my check up and go back to work on the 15th.

Thank you all that helped me get through those scary times.

Teresa
