Hi! As you can probably tell from my name, I love dogs and horses, and I have been known to whine a time or two! My dogs keep me laughing and my gorgeous Quarter Horse is my rock...I run to him when I"m upset and he is always there for me. I'm more at home in my barn then at any other place in the world...well, except maybe HysterSisters Cancer Concern Forum!
Besides horses and dogs, I also love reading, music and Fastpitch softball and enjoy both playing and watching the game. I'm a closet rock star and enjoy embarrasing my daughter by playing air guitar and singing Kareoke.
I found HysterSisters after having a TAH/BSO and being diagnosed with Stage 3C Ovarian Cancer in June of 2004. Some say Ovarian Cancer is the whispering disease. In my case, I have to beg to differ. I had plenty of symptoms that I chalked up to every other thing under the sun...pre-menopause, fibromyalgia, stress; for instance. My symptoms were CLASSIC OvCa signs: bloating, irregular bleeding, constipation, exhaustion, heartburn, frequent urination. Alone, no big deal. Together, red flag material. Ovarian Cancer is not so silent all the time...we need to LISTEN to what our bodies are saying! We definetly need to get the word out about what women need to be listening for; there's just not enough out that about OvCa awareness and early detection. I plan on doing my share to raise awareness whenever possible.
When I was first diagnosed, I had a LOT of "what is normal?" type questions. I was anxious about EVERYTHING regarding ovarian cancer and its treatment and found a warm & loving home over in Cancer Concerns. Whatever my concerns, there was someone there who understood my worries and the whole atmosphere really, really helped me stay calm and informed throughout my ordeal.
When I was asked to be a hostess of that wonderful forum, I knew this was my opportunity to give back just a little of what I"ve received at this wonderful site.
A good quote that I try to live by: "With all the things in life we can't control, here's something you can control: your attitude. Make it positive"! I truly believe in the power of positive thinking and know that my learned attitude has immensely helped me beat back this cancer. My CA-125 remains low and I hope to enjoy a long and happy dance with my favorite partner, NED (no evidence of disease).
I end with a quote from Dr. Bernie Siegel, my favorite visualization guru. "Allow the bird of hope to perch on a branch of the tree of life and never stop singing."
If I can help you in any way, feel free to PM me or email me.
Best wishes to all for a happy & Healthy future!
XOXOX
