I had my LAVH about 3 weeks ago. I was extremely nervous beforehand until a strange calmness came over me 2 days before the surgery. I had to be in the hospital by 5:45 am. Mind you I am not a morning person. I slept the 45 min to the hospital.
They put me and my dh in a room where I change into the hospital gown and hopped unto the bed waiting for someone to take me away. Luckily there was a tv in the room to keep me distracted.
After a short time they came to take me to what I call the holding room. This is where they put the iv in you. This for me was the worst part of the whole ordeal. My veins kept ballooning up when they stuck the needle in. Finally they found a good vein. Next thing I knew they where wheeling me into or and that was the last thing I remembered.
I woke up in the recovery room groggy but feeling no pain. I had no morphine pump and didn't need it. I asked the nurse if the dr. actually did anything cause i felt hardly any pain. She laughed.
I got wheeled up to my room where dh was waiting. It was nice to see his face. I had those massaging leg thingies on. At first they are nice but by nighttime I wanted them off of me. Unfortunately I had them on until the next morning.
Didn't get much sleep the first night. Between the thingie massaging my legs and the nurses coming in to check on me it was hard to get any rest. Plus I had a temp of 101 but luckily with some antibiotics they got that down to normal.
The whole time I was there I didn't take any pain meds. The only pain that I had was my back and the gas pains. I was happy when I passed gas that first night. No problems with the bladder either.
Next day I was home by dinner. It was so nice to be home and in my own bed. I had a pillow for my tummy so that when I turned on my sides that would help and it protected my tummy from dh just in case.
My 3 weeks have been very uneventful. I only took a pain med when I left the hospital and that was it. BM started three days after surgery.
Today I went for my last post op appt. The doc has cleared me for everything. My dh was happy to hear that in about a week we can have sex.
I am happy that I went through this procedure. I feel so much better. I feel like I'm at peace finally.
