Well,

I became a on my 37th birthday, 2/3/01!!!!

I got to the hospital at 7 a.m. as instructed and was taken into the pre-op area. I was fine during the whole time in pre-op, no anxiety, no nerves, I was laughing at the stuff my DH was saying about our 6 year old son. The nurses couldn't believe that I was this calm. The drug doc (easier to spell than his real title) came in and talked to me and a few minutes later I kissed my DH goodbye and was wheeled into the O.R. to begin my trip into HYSTERLAND!

Then as I lay there on the table, they put that darned mask on me and I have a MAJOR ANXIETY ATTACK! I begged them to take the mask off of me. I felt like I was being suffocated! The nurses and drug doc were wonderful. The mask was removed and I was able to just hold it right by my mouth and nose and had no further problem. The drug doc kept telling the nurse to "READ MY LIPS!!! THIS IS ANXIETY!!!" I just lost it. I was laughing because he had his surgical mask up over his lips and she couldn't read his lips. I kept apologizing for the anxiety attack and was reassured that this kind of thing happens all of the time. And as they were telling me this and that everything would be fine, they said "Nighty Nite" and I was gone.

The next thing I remember was waking up in post-op and feeling very sick to my stomach. They had me on a Demerol drip for the pain, bad mistake. I ended up having an allergic reaction to the Demerol and all night Saturday night I was throwing up! It got to the point that if I didn't stop puking soon, they were going to insert an NG tube in to drain my stomach! The only problem with that is the only stuff I was throwing up was bile from my liver. I have no gallbladder so the bile has to go somewhere. Finally after about 10 hours of this, they took off the pump and started giving me Dilotid for the pain. The throwing up stopped and I was finally able to sleep!

The next problem was the catheter! It was fine as it came out of my body but as my urine traveled down the tube into the bag, it started having a pink tinge to it and was very cloudy! The nurses were at a loss. They tried changing the tube, then the bag, then they chaged the whole darned thing! But it didn't matter. The day after my surgery I awoke at 5 a.m. to see my doctor standing at the foot of my bed! He had never been able to leave the hospital for very long if at all. He told me that my surgery had taken longer than expected (about an hour-1 1/2 hours longer) because I had an enourmous amout of scar tissue built up on my bladder and all over the place! He cleaned up my bladder and I told asked him about the catheter problem and he said it was because of the scrapping of the scar tissue that he had to do. Anyway, he told me that he had to take my right ovary because it was encased in scar tissue, but my left ovary was beautiful and there was no scar tissue on it at all so he left it alone. He took my tubes, cervix, uterus and my right ovary. My left ovary kicked right back in after surgery and there were no menopause symptoms. YEAH

I had horrible gas pains and I snuck my Gas-X and the nurse called him and told him what was going on and that I had Gas-X with me and could I take it, he said for me to take it if I needed to. IT WORKED!!

I ran a lowgrade fever until early Tuesday morning and the drain was removed. I still have the darned staples in, I hate them so bad. Every little move, I get pinched. I go back to see my doc tomorrow 2/9/01 and because of the added pains, my DH, who was supposed to go back to work today 2/08/01 called his boss last night and told him of the complications that he didn't feel right leaving me alone (except that we have 3 kids and the oldest is 16) to deal with this and that he would be back on Friday night for work. Hopefully my doc will remove the staples at my appointment tomorrow. As it is it hurts to move at all. I have trouble sleeping because every little move to get comfortable hurts like the dickens.

All in all, I would do it again if I had to. I know that this is what was needed to be done.

I want to thank all of my cybersisters for the support and help that you have all given me before my surgery. Without it, I really think that my experience would have been alot worse.

Tina
