Ask A Doctor
I had my surgery on Friday, April Fools Day and was released on the following Monday. I had a TAH; I had hoped to keep my ovaries, but the fibroids had so enlarged my uterus that the poor ovaries were crushed and beyond saving. So everything was removed. I also had a Burch bladder suspension.
My Hospital experience was positive; I was very lucky and blessed that my surgeon is as skilled as he is.
Pain is kept pretty well under control w/meds...I seem to be in the minority w/this---but I like the floaty, relaxed feeling the meds give me so I am in no hurry to quit them. At this time I can take one every five hours or so rather than the two every four hours as prescribed to begin with. They mellow me enough to relax and not feel I need to "push it."
The hardest things to overcome when I got home were getting in & out of bed and finding the right chairs to work w/me! I ended up bringing in a patio chair to use as a kitchen chair and I use the kitchen chair by the bed to help get up.
Our bodies are so amazing in their healing capacities--I am in such wonder at the daily little improvements I experience.
I know that I made the right decision w/this surgery and that puts me at peace. I was so miserable before; leading a half life. There is a whole new road open to me now: filled w/new obstacles but also Hope.
Good Luck and Blessings to all who follow this path...I am happy to talk w/anyone about my experiences.
