This is my hystory.. be warned .. it gets gruesome.

It all started 4-15 at 9 am. I arrived at the castle ready to go. They took me to the back preop room dressed me in my new princess gown and everyone and their brother came to introduce themselves. My anesthetist was truly wonderful. Kept me calm through it all and explained everything thoroughly. My main fear at that time was my allergy to morphene. I was so afraid to wake up and be in a reaction phase. He reassured me the Fentanyl was ready to go. The next thing I know I am kissing dear hubby good-bye.. little did I realize it was almost the last time I would.

The next thing I remember is hearing voices... "is the blood ready?" "Get the blood going now!" I remember faintly asking, "is that for me?" Will, my anesthetist leaned over and replied" yes hunny I am so sorry it is.. stay calm we will do this together." Those words will echo in my mind forever. I remember then having my anesthetist explain.."you may not remember but you have a few lines going in your arms. I will explain later." All I wanted to do was sleep and all I was being told was stay awake stay with them.

The next thing I remember is having my husband arrive and though he probably doesn't realize it and I will never mention it, I saw the look of fear on his face when he looked at me. That scared me. HE stayed with me til they got me up to my room and settled.

There were things put on my legs to help the circulation and my nurses were awesome. They kept talking to me and were there every 15 minutes to make sure I was ok. Now I know that was blood transfusion protocol, but they still always checked on me to be sure I was fine. I didn't want for anything during the night. A couple of times, I woke to see my nurse hit my PCA pump. She said I was moaning and was asleep so she wanted me not to hurt.

The next morning the doctor came in to see me. I found at this time what had happened. She said the good news was there was no sign of the endometriosis, probably due to the high doses of birth control I had been on. However, there was scar tissue adhesing my bladder to my uterus. In the removal process the bladder was cut. They had to go in and do another cut to ensure the bladder was repaired correctly and call in a Urogynecologist to ensure proper repair. With all this I lost over a liter of blood. They had to put an arterial line in to monitor my blood pressure and gasses. I woke with a bandage over one wrist with a huge bruise and two IV's one for blood one for fluids. I will have my catheter for at least 2 weeks. I go back friday for post op and have the staples removed. Before the catheter can be removed, I have to have another proceedure, a cystogram, to ensure complete repair of the bladder.

The rest of day tIwo went well. I started walking that day. Litle steps and then the gas hit.. wow... that was an experience. My sons were laughing (ages 9 and 10) saying come on mom.. let it rip... at that moment the nurse walks in as my son says you had no problem farting at home..

THe day three was more walking.. Just resting and walking. Again my staff was wonderful for me.

Day four was monday and I was given the go ahead to go home. I started having some bladder spasms and was given meds for this. I reacted. I spent two more trips to the castle that day and one the next. Yesterday, wednesday was the first day I didn't go back to the castle. I spent most of that day sleeping it off from going back and forth.

Today should prove to be interesting. We ordered new windows and they are being installed today. I plan on being a princess and laying in the couch and directing from here.

With all that happened no I am not a text book recovery or surgery. No I feel no resentment. I feel as if I truly owe the docs my life. No one could have predicted the bladder issues. So for now I will be a princess smile and say thank you God for giving me more time with my kids when I was so close to being gone. I would do it again if faced with the choice even knowing how it did turn out. Eventually I would have had to had the bladder repaired anyway.

Tricia
