Welcome to Hystersisters!
Hello, my name is Bernice. I have lived in Oregon's beautiful Willamette Valley my entire life. I am married, and we have three children, one in college and two in high school this year, 2005. We have two small beagles, Daisy Pearl and Rosie June.
I have an associate of science degree in liberal arts. I held various jobs after college, but eventually became a school bus driver. I drove for 5 years before I was married and loved it! I was a stay-at-home wife and mother for 16 years, my biggest passion in life! I returned to bus driving for 5 more years when our children were older, but I hung up my keys for good in December 2003.
My hobbies over the years have included: drawing, watercolors, colored pencils, woodcarving, crafting, and cake decorating. I enjoy cooking, sewing, crocheting, reading, gardening, and I love to grow roses. I am involved in my church, and volunteer in the office. I like walking and physical activity for pleasure, to relieve stress, and to keep in shape.
My periods began when I was 11 years old. They were irregular and painful. I would pass out at school and then endure up to an hour of torturous pain. I learned to put up with it as I was never taken to a doctor. This followed me into adulthood.
I was married on my 27th birthday. My husband and I didn't want to wait long to start a family, but soon we found ourselves faced with infertility. God arranged for us to find a wonderful doctor who worked with us, and eventually we were able to have three beautiful children.
After the pregnancies, my cycles became more regular and tolerable. I sailed through the next 12 years without major problems. Then the heavy bleeding, clotting and pain increased over the next few years. I felt "fat" all the time. I had no energy.
In December 2004, my doctor found that I had an enlarged uterus, 3-4 month pregnancy in size. He suspected endometriosis and/or adenomyosis and possibly fibroids. Surgery was scheduled and I began looking for information. I had an SAH on January 24, 2005.
Two weeks before surgery, I found HysterSisters while researching on the internet. I have been no other place since! There is nothing but kindness, hugs, encouragement, and loads of good information here. I was very well informed before my surgery. I now have new friends from all over the world who have accompanied me through this entire experience. I didn't have to go through it alone. It is a priviledge to be a hostess on the post-op board, and to be able to return a small part of what I have received from HysterSisters.
Lots of hugs!!!
Bernice
