Hi All

I visited Hystersisters around October after discussing with my GYN about having a Hysterectomy.(keeping the ovaries)I had already chosen the month just not the actual date.

I picked February because I wanted some time to get myself physically and mentally prepared for the procedure.

Around November I called my GYN to discuss with him about having 2 procedures done at the same time (having a problem with a pesky hyper-mobile bladder)(that means I tinkle when I laugh/cry/sneeze/walk/run generally breathe LOL) and he said NO Problem but this means NOT doing my hysterectomy trans-vaginal and doing it the old fashion way and cutting a smile into my amdomin :Grin , (don't bother me none, got enough stretch marks that the incision ain't gonna make a diff)

The big day arrives (February 06, 2001), go in at 5:30 a.m.
(just a thought...do they have you come in so early so that you're too tired to realize you're not going to get fed that day?)(Just a thought), got weighed, inspected etc and then plopped into bed to wait my turn to go up to surgery.

Then head to surgery, meet with my sleepy doctor, got my sleepy meds and the next thing I know I wake up to see my honey sitting next to me and a very bloated tummy, sore but not unbearable. Nurse came in gave me a shot of Demerol w/Fentynal (spelling?), and then I got cozy and dozy, Hubby went to stay at his mom's house while I slept, came back later.
Anyway long story short, left the hospital Friday (without my Catheter)and haven't looked back. Haven't used pain meds except for Iburprofen, have taken it easy, but walked to the store and 7 days after getting home.

I love my hysterectomy and my burch suspension.
Sure I'm sore, but each day is getting better and I thrill at the idea that I will no longer have to deal with a period ever again.

The doctors and nurses all marveled at how little pain meds I needed and I have really enjoyed the fact that I'm not a laid-up as most people made me think I would be.

I really look forward to my future esp. without a period or worry about cervical/uterine cancer. Getting a yearly to check the ovaries and get blood work done to make sure they don't go bad and I'm free and clear.

It hasn't all been roses, retraining the bladder took some concentration and it hurts to go tinkle sometimes but things are progressing and it will be wonderful to exercise and not have to wear a pad.

Anyway, just wanted to tell others out there, it's not as scary or horrible as you may expect it to be. Get all the info you can about your procedure and make sure you get a doctor who really listens to you. Get yourself ready for the big day, lose some weight (if you need to), exercise, eat right and rejoice in the fact that you are a woman, in fact I look at myself and I feel more of a woman then when I had a uterus. I am free, free to go, to do, to create, to experience, without being tied to a monthly chore, that interferred with my lifestyle and made me feel tired, sore, angry and limited.

I am now not just a woman I am a woman released, I am WOMAN, and a and I am looking forward to being completely healed with nothing to stop me.

Thanks,

Linda
