After waiting one year for my surgery form relief from adenomyosis, heavy painful periods and an enlarged uterus, I finally got my day. Thanks to the many posts at Hystersisters, where I got valuable information and invaluable support, I was feeling well prepared, very calm and confident going in.

Of course, the bowel prep day was the worst, as I feared. Woke up the day of surgery with a headache and feeling dehydrated but as soon as I got to the castle, they hooked up my IV and started giving me liquids. Walked into the OR and lay down on the table, remember the anesthetist saying "this will relax you" and nothing more till recovery.

Had some pain when I woke up so they gave me a shot of morphine. About an hour later, I went to my room upstairs. Had no pain but was very groggy. Slept on and off until about 1AM, 12 hours after my morphine shot. Was feeling just uncomfortable, like cramps, so nurse gave me 2 Tylenol#3's to help me sleep. I slept right through until 6AM, when they took out my catheter.

First time I got up, I was a little dizzy but no pain. Had some solid food for breakfast and then the gas started. All I can say is pain, pain, pain. The nurse recommended walking to get rid of the gas so I walked the floor every hour. Still pain, pain, pain from gas. So I took 2 gas X (thank you hystersisters) and got some relief but still had pain everytime I ate.

The gyne patients are kept in the maternity ward and got the maternity food - lots of cheese and milk. I'm sure if I had got more fruit and veg and even some yogurt, I would have had less gas.

Had a sleeping pill to help me sleep, worked great. Also took 2 more gasX before bed. Woke up on day 3 feeling great and ready to go home. Coming home was a bit tiring as I had to catch up on everything, deal with stuff DH couldn't deal with while I was away, and hang out with my little guy till his bedtime but still good to be home.

Today I feel tired for overdoing it yesterday. Still no pain at all, except in my legs, especially knees and hips. I suspect this is from having my legs strapped to the stirrups for 2 hours? I am also noticing bruising on my legs.

I am very glad to have had this operation and felt the relief from my uterus on the first day. And the best news of all for me - my belly got smaller! I no longer look like I swallowed a watermelon. When the gas flares up, it swells a little but its soft, not rock hard like it was before.

Thank you hystersisters and all June 14th princesses for your mutual support.
Janet
