Hi, my name is Theresa, I'm 36, married with three children. After having my children, my periods just seemed to get heavy and very clotty. In 2003, I bled for 3 weeks straight after being put on a new bc pill. The dr. told me that I might bleed and it's 'normal'. I kept telling her that this doesn't seem normal and took myself to the hospital where I was admitted for a D&C and 3 blood transfusions. I had polyps and they bursted, the new OB/Gyn told me. He also said that if it happened again, which it did earlier this year, I'd have a hysterectomy. Which brings me here...

I went into the Women's hospital at 6am, the admitting nurse put a motion sickness patch behind my ear, then gave me some nasty stuff to drink in case I got sick. I was taken into the OR and I'm guessing that they put the sleeping med in my IV before going in there because I had just gotten myself moved onto the table and I don't remember a thing until I woke up in recovery. I woke to a nurse putting on those lovely victoria secret panties and a diaper sized pad on me. I felt no pain whatsoever until after I got into my room and had to move myself onto the other bed. Thank goodness for the huge handlebar hanging over the bed! The only pain I felt was on the left side, which I realized later to being gas pains/cramps. I had a morphine pump but rarely used it. I did have oxygen tubes at my nose due to my O2 sats dropping when I was sleeping (I snore when on my back). The next morning, the catheter was removed and they made me get up and moving. It really hurt to get into a sitting position but walking felt great. I was released from the hospital 28 hours after surgery. I felt fine with the exception of those teeth gritting gas pains that I still sometimes have. I haven't bled, not even after surgery, and haven't taken anything but ibuprofen 600 since the morning after. Sitting on the toilet hurt more than anything else so I squatted for the first week.

I'm at 5 weeks post-op and still feel great. I have a hard time believing that I had surgery. I haven't had any bowel troubles either. The only concern that I have is the left incision is still not healing as nicely as the other two incisions did. This one is the largest, maybe 1 inch long and still red and tender. I went back to the dr. yesterday due to oozing blood and she yanked out a stitch that didn't disolve. Other than that, things are great! I have to remind myself not to overdo it as I forget I just had surgery a month ago.

Overall, I am happy that I went through the surgery, glad that I was able to keep my ovaries and so blessed with no more bleeding!!
