I went in at 6am on the 18th of July after a night of no sleep from my bowel prep. That was almost as bad as the surgery!! I went in to surgery not knowing which one I would wake up to but I ended up with the LAVH complete. I knew that they would be taking my ovaries due to my endo & my cervix since I've already had cervical cancer. I woke up in recovery needing to pee, I checked to see if I had a cath & didn't so I got the nurses attention & after a unpleasant hoist on to a bedpan I was ready for some pain meds. I did alright on Monday, by that night I was up going to the bathroom....mostly b/c I despise bedpans!! I tried to walk a little later that night but I couldn't, ended up throwing up so walking was out. I had a awful itching from my pca pump but they kept it on & gave me benadryl every 4 hours until Tues morning. My nose is still raw from me clawing my face in my sleep....first thing when my Dr came by Tues morning I told him to get that stupid thing away from me. I begged during the night for them to turn it off & give me something in my iv or by mouth but they wouldn't. I was so tired after they took my pca pump off that I slept until lunch. They had to cath me Tues night b/c I couldn't go except for a few drops all evening, had over 700cc in my bladder, felt SO much better after they drained it for me. It came back full of infection so I had to get another IV put in b/c the plan was for me to go home after supper Tues night. I got another bag of fluid & Cipro antibiotics for the night. After breakfast & finally passing some gas during the night I got to come home about 11:00 Wed. morning. I was SO glad to be home!
Today is 9 days post-op & I think I'm doing pretty good. I get tired easy but I'm only taking pain pills at night now so I can get comfortable, Tylenol during the day. I am doing light housework only, very little cooking, my hubby has been great & my family has really helped out with our 4 yr old son. I go back for a checkup on 8/12/05 & I'm hoping for great news. I have not started on any HRT yet, trying to do without for a while & I really haven't needed it yet. It would be nice if we weren't having such super hot weather...it's even hot in the house with the air running.
Best of luck to all you ladies in waiting, I can say that waiting is the worst part!!!

Tammy W
