I had to be at the hosp at 5:45 am on 3-19 for surgery at 7:30. My mom was taking me and she called me at 5:20 because her car wouldn't start. So, I picked her up and off we went. We were in the prep area waiting room by 6 but they weren't ready for us. So, at 6:15, they came and got me and got me all dolled up for surgery. Then I was wheeled on the gurney to the holding area, where they stuck in the IV, put a heart monitor on my back (more on that later) and the anethsiologist (sp?) talked with me. I had already decided on a spinal, so he just asked me at that time if I wanted something to relax. I had been nervous, but started praying and felt the peace of God. I asked him to give me something anyway and that is the last thing I remember until waking up in recovery. Where I immediately demanded some pain medication. Then they asked me to roll over on my side so they could remove the heart monitor from my back. "You have got to be kidding!" was my response. Then they took me to my room and gave me that wonderful pump and I felt much better. I took alot of stuff with me that had been recommended, but the only things I actually used were my robe, slippers and a crossword puzzle book. I spent a lot of time sleeping. And I was very glad that I told my friends to visit me at home. I was way too tired to hold up my end of any conversation and the nurses really do wake you up all night long. I had one come in the first morning after surgery at 4:30 to show me how to use an incentive breathing gadget. She had no clue how it worked, but woke me and my roommate anyway. I am now 2 weeks post-op and doing well. I saw the doctor today and he can't believe how well I am doing. I am very blessed in that I heal fast. I hope my story helps. If you have any questions, please ask. God bless, Chris
