Hi There
My surgery was October 17th. I decided to have the surgery after 16 years of endo pain and complications. I had all the typical endo symptoms which started when I was 17 with IBS symptoms. I then later developed pain with intercourse and spotting and pain before period started. The pain in the right lower abd increased in intensity and at its worse started to move down my right thigh. The pain kept me from sleeping and enjoying my life.

I tried all of the conservative treatments: BCP (over 10 years, 4 of which were continuous dosing), lupron for 13 months (no add back estrogen...gained 50 pounds), danocrine (awful stuff), and two laps for the endo. The first lap I had stage 3 endo all over my ovaries, uterus, tubes and the second surgery I was a stage 2 same endo plus adhesions. I also have tried without success accupuncture for chronic pain, chiropractory, and diet changes.

I also was a fertility patient. I went through 3 cycles of IVF with ICSI and assisted hatching. One pregnancy with a miscarriage. I was then treated for depression (imagine that??). What a decade I must say.

So the deciding factors for the surgery were that I was unable to have sex anymore without extreme pain and not able to ride my ATV without pain that haunted me for days afterwards. This decision for the surgery I did not take lightly because I knew that I was only 33 and the chance of both ovary removal was pretty high. But the pros for the surgery were higher than the cons.

So I scheduled this surgery and searched the websites for information. I found hystersisters which helped me with pre op anxiety, how to prep for the hospital stay, what to expect pre and post op, I felt very prepared the morning of the 17th.

On the 17th, I decided to go with general anesthesia with IV PCA Morphine after the OR. I was too scared pre op to go with anything unknown to me. So they wheeled me in and the next thing I remember is moaing in pain and the nurse saying to me " Ive already given you 16 mg of morphine you need to relax" Later she said to me "You should of got an epidural". Great thanks that info really helps NOW!

The surgery lasted 1.5 hours. My ovary was stuck to my uterus, abd wall and sigmoid colon. They removed all of this and then biopsied the right ovary which was ok. When I got to my room, my pain was 9/10 I swear I was hallucinating from the pain. I started clicking the pump and got it down to a 7. Not one time in 4 days did my pain go below a 7. On the night of the second day I developed a high heart rate. They came to do my Vitals at 300 am and I was sleeping and my heart rate was 140. Scared me to death. So the residentcame to see me decided I would live until my attending saw me and let me rest. That am, my doctor saw me and ordered my medical doctor to see me. The medical dr ordered EKG and blood work. I continued to be tachcardic all day (no sysmptoms for me though). About 7 pm the third day, my doctor decided to order a cat scan to rule out a pulmonary embolism. At this point, the nurse came in and said sign here you may have a PE and this is the consent. I FREAKED out! I started crying, I was alone and thought I was going to die

I went down for CT and it was negative. Then I saw the cardiologist who ordered lopressor and xanax and an echo for me. I went for the echocardiogram and that too (Thank God) was normal. So they sent me home on xanax, percocet, and lopressor. And pulled the drain from my abdomen

I was in extreme amount of pain after I got home about 7-8/10 and took the meds (percocet) every four hours. This finally curbed the pain to a 5. After about 8 days total, I was finally starting to be able to sit up and stopped taking the narcotic and switched to motrin. I doing pretty well now Day 18 today, I usually take one motrin a day. I walking ok but get fatigued easily.
I now developed a hematoma over the left part of my incision. Dr says to watch and see how it goes.

No matter what happens Im happy with my decision, I did this to regain my life. Im so happy I found hyster sisters!
