Hello, I feel I can post my experience as I can sit for a bit longer now. It all started for me when my son was born 9 years ago. I've had to wear a pad every day since for some sort of discharge. The reason was unknown. I went to see a urologist who said the bladder was ok. He sent me to an OB/GYN. He did testing and found I had adenomyosis. My uterus was large and likely pressing on my bladder. My periods were harsh, and frequent. Huge clots, daily cramping etc. The only cure of course is hysterectomy. I was booked for over 4 months before I had the surgery. I had alot of time to "explore" this operation and to get alot of concerns addressed etc. Which, with the help of my fellow "sisters" I did. By the time the day came I was quite prepared for it. In fact, I did not have any questions for my dr at the pre-op either. I did not have to do any bowel prep or special diet for this. However, I ate soups and lite foods a couple days before anyways. I went in for 7 a.m. for an 8:30 surgery. I changed into the hospital gown and sat in a great recliner chair watching tv. I did not have to wear a cap or those stockings! Then the nurse called me to come get the IV started. That wasn't as bad as I expected, she was good at it. I waited about half an hour more, then she gave me a "calming" pill. I asked the anesthetist for this at the pre-op. (Advice from my sisters which I took.I also told him I vomit badly from general anesthetic. He said he would give me something in the OR so I wouldn't throw up either.) The pill was great. I sat calmly waiting, in fact, not even caring! LOL!. Finally, but on-time, it was time to go. They said to kiss my dh then we walked off. When we got in to the OR they said they had to do an emergency C-section. They apologized to me (I didn't care at this point LOL!). I went back to the waiting room where the nurse said "she"s back already!" everyone laughed! That eased it a bit for everyone else waiting too. About 45 mins later they came again and we went in. I got up on the table and they strapped my arms down. I had to position my butt at the "crack" in the table. Ha ha...no "pun" intended there! They put warm blankets on me. The nurse put sticky things on my chest. The A-man said he was injecting something into the IV that might sting...I never felt it sting. He put a mask on my face and said it was oxygen. I remember thinking "yeah right" that's what all my other "sisters" said too. It had a pleasant smell though. They were very nice and the A-man said he was giving me something to make me have good dreams. I think he was right. They were stroking my hand and joking with me when I went out, I felt very safe. I awoke in the OR when they were moving me to my bed. That was kind of a blurr though. In recovery I was in alot of discomfort but I didn't have to ask for anything. Actually I couldn't. They had it under control. Then I was wheeled into my room sleeping. I was given a shot of demerol which didn't seem to help, but the tylenol 3's worked quite well. And, like the A-man promised I did not vomit!! Yeah!! I had alot of back pain though, because the dr had a hard time getting the uterus out. He had to cut it a few times he said. Otherwise, it went good. I did not have a catheter or any vaginal packing either. I was in my room by about 11:30. They also gave me suppositories a couple of times for pain and inflammation. These worked very well. I had to go to the bathroom right away, and I got up and walked over no problem. It was gross though, it looked like it was all blood. It got lighter every time I went of course. I was in the maternity section, but in a room all by myself. It was nice right by the window, watching the snowfall. The nurse said they had no room in the surgical unit and that was good because I was her only patient! She took good care of me. They ran two bags of antibiotics through by the next morning. I ate meals of jellos, juices, toasts, rice, etc. No diet restrictions. At 8:30 the next morning my dr discharged me! That was great I wanted to go. This was in all...a very good experience for me. I was worried for nothing really. He said if I didn't have a bm by thursday to drink milk of magnesia, which I did. It worked well...no pain at all. Today is my 4th post-op day, and I do not have to use any meds for any discomfort. I feel like a million bucks! I am taking it VERY EASY because I want to heal right the first time! I'm still bleeding a bit, but I've read it can take awhile to stop. Hope this has helped you! Good luck!!

Kim
