Ask A Doctor
I am afraid to have a hysterectomy, but I am sick of feeling the way I do. I am exhausted, depressed, anemic, have endometriosis, fibroids, adhesions, scar tissue and something wrong with my uterus.
How do I know if I'm really going to get better? How do I know if HRT will work? I'm just very scared and nervous, and I'm having trouble making decisions and concentrating. I would appreciate your thoughts.
Deciding to have or not to have a hysterectomy can be very difficult. Many women have been in the same position. Everyone is afraid of the hysterectomy. You're not alone on feeling this way.
Many women have said, after their surgery, that they didn't realize how bad they felt until after they had the hysterectomy. They were amazed at how much better they felt after surgery. Other women regretted that they waited so long to have the surgery. They’ve never felt better!
Other women have wished that they had looked into alternatives, as having a hysterectomy can change your life. Of course no one can tell you a hysterectomy will solve all your problems and not create new ones. Only you and your doctor know your complete medical history and what might be causing your symptoms. If you are not having pain, you should get a second opinion and third opinion for the purpose of exploring alternative treatments to help with things like anemia and PMS.
HysterSisters.com has found that the more optional treatments explored prior to having a hysterectomy the better. Many women schedule their hysterectomy at the first mention of a doctor’s recommendation. If there are post-op complications there can be regret for having surgery so quickly. Explore all your options and alternative treatments first!
If a hysterectomy is still recommended, then you have peace of mind knowing that it is the best option for you.
