Good Day Ladies. I had my procedure on 3/27/01, expecting to recover quickly, as I am a very active, healthy 48 year old. However, my body had a very different idea. The surgery lasted 2hr.15min, instead of the booked 90 minutes, and I stayed in the hospital 5 days. My procedure was due to large fibroids, causing the uterus to be 5x the normal size. After surgery, my body decided to simply shut down, nothing worked. And as you know, after lap. surgery, it's important to be able to walk around and expell the gas used to expand the abdominal cavity. Well, my body just wouldn't have anything to do with that. I developed a post-op illius, meaning "not working" and it took 5 days to finally hear any noises in my belly. Instead of "bouncing back", I was set back a week, and upon returning home, realized I had just been rode hard and hung up wet! I had drainage from my navel that lasted about two weeks, finally stopping just before my first post-op visit with my Dr.. That was very scarry for me. The thought of the examination made me very nervous. And sure enough, the left side was still inflammed and very tender. But, all looked good and was going well, so back home I went. Three days later, my entire belly was swollen and tight as a drum, and I was instructed to go to the ER by my doctor for some tests. Something was not right, but I had no idea what. After X-Rays and CTScans with IV dye, I was diagnosed with a pin hole leak in my Ureter, left side, and was leaking urine into my belly. So, I was admitted that night, (Easter Sunday by the way) and on Monday, scheduled for another round in the OR. My Dr. and the Urologist he had called in and consulted with, were going to insert a "stent" into my Ureter, connecting my Kidney to my Bladder, which would allow the body to void properly, and the Ureter to heal on it's own. On Tuesday evening, I was discharged.
It has been 5 weeks since my LASCH, and 2 weeks since my stent placement, and I feel like I am getting better every day. I am scheduled to have the stent removed the end of May. Some days are better than others, and if I am too active, I know it. I am looking forward to having an improved life, and although I had complications, I am certain I made the right decision to have the LASCH. Good Luck to all. Better days are ahead.
