hello thought i should share with u finally the thoughts and pains and enjoyment of my TAH since so many stories here have helped me out.

My tah was on aug. 4th 06 and was having it done due to major pain in abdomin and messed up periods. Finally after no one wanted to do surgery for the past 10 yrs i got a obgyn that insisted i have one or try Lupron. I said no by choice of the Lupron figured if i was going to do that i might as well have the surgery. It was not a guarantee with the Lupron and figured i tried so many meds already lets just get this over with. Was soooooooo nervous going into surgery i didn't have any bowel prep just nothing to eat or drink after midnight. I came out of surgery fine with a really sore belly of course. I had no sick stomach or any trouble with the sleep med. I was taken to my room and watched carefully. I had a few bad surgeries. I had trouble with my blood pressure being to high and my heart rate was real high for the 1st and 2nd day of surgery this time. I also had taken levaquin and antibiotic to prevent infection since i have gotten infection the last time of surgery. I was glad to have that. I had a fever of 101 for the 2nd and 3rd days and got to go home on day 4. A longer stay than I anticipated. I couldn't eat anything for 3 days and on the 4th day had some saltines and hot tea. I just had no appetite. from day 1 out of surgery i had really bad hot/cold sweats and was put on prempro on day 5 to help out. I would always get them at night when asleep. Now i get some mild hot flashes during the day. That isn't as bad. I haven't been sleeping much during the day and i have been walking alot. The abdomen pain gets better the more you walk. I had 1 very painful day after walking to much but felt better the next and still continued walking alot. I had 16 staples across my belly and it was about 7 inches wide. Bigger than I thought it would be. I got the stitches out today and all is well doc said keep walking. Yesterday was a bad day had to rest all day and was running a fever so doc put me back on antibiotic for a week to clear up whatever is in need of clearing up. My appetite is slowly coming back. I have lost over 5 lbs and am glad i needed to lose 15 anyhow. No major breakdowns but i have been a little irritated by people. I think i will be happy with things once healed up good. I have been having trouble with bowel movements regardless of all the fruit and all the water i have eaten. going to take metamucil pills for awhile to see if that helps as per doc. I have had a headache since i have come out of surgery also which could be many things not just hormones. All in waiting just make sure to write down any questions for doctor and ASK them. I asked all i could even the how many people have u done surgery to question and how many problems with surgeries. It is your body so make sure to ask everything it helps relax your mind anyhow. I have not taken pain meds since the 2nd day in the hospital and that is really the best thing if the pain is not too bad cause the pain meds cause constipation. Take lots of deep breaths i know i did. And clean house. (funny how much i cleaned in waiting and now the house is a wreck again)

Thanks to the hyster-sisters i have been well informed of what i was going to be getting into and was so thankful for the message boards and support of all the others.
