Ladies,
This has taken me awhile to try to get down on "paper". I am 36 yrs old and have 2 wonderful daughters and a very loving husband. My story started 7 yrs ago...
After my youngest was born we decided to wait a few years to have another, so I had the norplant inserted. The first year was great, lite bleeding 2-3 days, only gained about 10 lbs. The second year the headaches started and gained 20 more lbs. The third year was the same. Tried to lose the weight, but every time I got down to a certain weight the headaches got worse. the fourth year was horrible. Heavy bleeding and clots, migraines. I had to wait until our new ins went into effect to get it out. After it was taken out GP put me on depo to help with the bleeding . After 6mths we tried BCs. I quit everything after that, I figured my body would regulate on its' own after all the hormones were out . For a few months it seemed to be doing that, And then the heavy bleeding and clots came back with a vengeance:evil: GP tried eveything to get it to stop and the referred me to a OB/GYN. He first did a D&C w/hystoscope. Found nothing, just an enlarged uterus. For three months I was in heaven, my periods had gone back to normal. Then I didn't bleed for two months and I was having horrible pains in my back and pelvic area(not cramp pains). DD decided to do a laparoscopy to determine if it might be endo or fibroids. DD came out saying multiple Fibroids and possible adenomyosis. The next step would be a hyst. My uterus was too enlarged and far up to do a TVH. So I had to wait another 6 weeks for surgery( a TAH leaving ovaries). After 3 weeks my period started and lasted up to surgery date. On the BIG day they took me in gave me the lovely gown, started my IVs and let my DH stay with me until they wheeled me in. I had to scoot to another bed in the OR after that I remember waking up in post-op in horrible pain. They couldn't get it under control. They gave me all different kinds of meds, but none worked. I was still in horrible pain when they took me to my room. My family came in and my DH said I was sooo white and in so much pain that they left so as not to upset my kids. I remember telling the nurse I felt sick and they gave me something in the IV. I started to feel better and all of the sudden I , there was a little blood in it and I asked if this was normal. They didn't answer. The pain finally was under control. Ate nothing that night. Had a liquid breakfast and was still feeling sick. I puked again and there was a huge amount of blood(about 1-2 cups). The nurses called the DD and he came and looked at me. Said he was going to get a consult and not to worry. Someone came in and took my blood. Shortly after I did it again, more blood than before(about 2-3 cups). Right after I did this my GP came in to say Hi. After seeing me and the blood I was puking up he immediately called the GI lab and sent me down for a endoscopy. My husband had just arrived as they wheeled me in for the second surgery. They found a tear in my esophagus and had to cauterize it closed. They said I had got it from retching. After that my hospital stay got much better. I was in for 6 days. The last three I got to eat anything I wanted and as much as I wanted. I was so ready to go home . I only had a few days with bad gas pains, and painful bowel movements. I now have to take Iron pills and was on antibiotics for two weeks.(Better safe than sorry).
But here is the kicker: I finally got to see my path report. I had to go to the hospital to get it. It showed no evidence of fibroids or adenomyosis. The uterus was enlarged to a 12 week size and was slightly hard with a thick lining. There was a small pus pocket with mucousy pus in the uterus. They found atypical cells on my cervics. All were found neg for cancer. I believe the norplant was the cause for all this pain that I had to endure.I am glad I got the hyst because of the pain and bleeding. I am a little as to why my DD said fibroids in the first place, but this I will have to ask he on my next visit.
So please Ladies always get a second opinion, don't learn the hard way!
