My name is Kari and I am 29 years old I was told at age 20 I had vericous veins in my uterus(Pelvic Congestion)and that they are the size of a mans middle finger when they are to be the size of a tip of a ball point pen. My Doctor told me that I would have to deal with pelvic pain my whole child bearing years. Well I gave birth to my last child April 21 2000 and I had my hysterectomy on April 23 2001. It has been a very difficalt desision to make but I have been in so much pain and taking so much medicine I could not handle the pain any more. My husband is unemployed and I am the one that makes the money I knew I needed to be able to fuction normally to take care of my kids and home.

We decided to go through with the surgery as soon as possible. Like I stated earlier I had inon the 23rdof April this year 2001 and it is now May 26 and almost 5 weeks after the hysterectomy, it has been a very long 5 weeks. The surgery went great he only had to take the uterus he stated that the uterus was double the size it was to be and it was a good thing to have takenit out. and I still have my Ovaries so, hopfully no hormone therapy will be needed. I am feeling better about my decision it has been a hard one.

I did have some complications I got pnemonia and had to stay two days longer in the hospital. I think that has been somewhat harder to get over then the hysterectomy. while in the Hospital I noticed a lump in my stomach it started out small about the size of a dime and by my two week check up it was the size of a quarter he stated that is was a tumor and that I needed to have it removed and I just had that removed on Friday the 25th of May The Doctor said he needs to send it for testing. I am doing fine with that now it is just the waiting game to see if it is canceres or not.
wish me luck.

I have been pondering of the future for me and what it will be like. I can only hope and pray that I have made the right choice so that I can be the Mom and the wife I know I can be. That means with out the pain and the drugs that has made it so hard for me over the past 9 years. I hope my kids know that I love them and that my Husband can still look at me as a woman from now on.

I know that there are other woman that have need for hysterectomy because of more serious problems and I can only hope that they have the faith and knowledge that if they want to have the life that they know they deserve some times the surgery is the answer. I know for me it has been a blessing. I hope my story has helped someone in some way. My prayers are with those that have and those that will need to make these hard desicions. Take care and with all my love.
