Tomorrow will be 2 weeks for me. I went in bright and early on the 14th, went through the usual wait time, prep, IV, etc. I was expecting a LSH without removal of either ovary. This was the thing that I feared the most... what exactly WAS I going to wake up to? In recovery, I remember feeling a tremendous amount of belly pain, and I looked down and saw (3) 3-inch incisions. Both ovaries had been removed, along with tubes, etc. The day was mainly a blur to me with the morphine pump going. I do remember being afraid to move. I had the leg compressors going, and the Foley of course, so all I wanted to do was sit still and sleep. The day/night was event-free basically. Kids and DH came to visit, and kids stayed with GM for the night. The following morning, the Dr. came in and talked, showed photos, etc. He said both ovaries were horrible looking, and they simply had no chance. And re: the photos, I've seen those before with the prior surgeries, but they looked exactly as you would imagine with Endo. Nurse came in and removed Foley. Many women have stated they dont 'feel' it, haha! Boy oh boy, I did. Granted, it was only about 5 seconds worth, but it was painful. Naturally, they got me up and into the shower with my shower chair. That was the best part of my whole stay. My Dr. technically released me at 11 am, but I requested a longer stay. I just wasnt ready to go yet. I stayed until about 4 pm, and am sure glad I did. I was able to actually eat a little, rest a little, and not feel so rushed. The ride home and remaining evening was mainly uneventful. Just slept, enjoyed being with the kids, etc. Ironically, my pain seemed to get worse each day that went by. On the 4th day, I experienced a dreadful morning of vomitting and severe nausea, and let me tell you.... Vomitting is NOT what you want at this point. I literally had to do it standing straight up to help with the tummy pain. Dr. stated it could be from not eating with the medications. Once I survived that, on day 7, I experienced Constipation. I would replace that day with 1000 more surgeries if I had to. It was horrific. My poor mother (nurse practioner) had to come over and literally "help" with the issue. We spent hours that morning with enemas, my lying on the floor fetal position in the bathroom... etc. I cant stress stool softeners enough, but I had been taking 3 every morning since I returned home. Ladies, drink the prune juice, eat prunes... anything you have to do to avoid this. It was miserable. Each day after that has gotten a little better. Today is my first day back at work, and I feel 'okay'. I'm also taking Premarin .625 every night, which I've had to learn to take at night to help with the nausea. I have alot of research to do on HRT, my age, side affects, etc. It was a huge loss/surprise to me to have to go through it. So far, I'm just having some hot flashes and a little nausea. Anyways, it feels good to be on the other side, and am able to share my story. As everyone else has said... the wait IS the hard part, but the unknown is THE worse.
