I had a LAVH/BSO with cystocele/rectocele on April 16, 2001 after 15 years of dealing with endometriosis. Endo caused compications with carrying a pregnancy full term (have had 5 miscarrages) I was blessed to have 1 child (girl age 7) after extensive fertility treatments. Endo, along with damage done to my body thru pregnacy ultimatly caused total infertility. Having delt with the fact that I would probalby never have another child I still wasn't prepared to have a hyst at the age of 31 (1 week after my 31st B- day). I am, mind you one of the oldest in my mothers family to go through the Hyst nightmare, (every woman on my mothers side of my family -7 in all- has had a Hyst by the age of 28 except one who had hers at 45) still because of technology today and the fact that I have undergone 2 laproscopys, 1 mico surgery, and 6 months of Lupron to manage Endo I thought I would have more time than the others. About 4 1/2 months ago I discovered a small mass protruding from my vaginal opening, a visit to the gyno that day, diagnosed uterine prolapse. the doc says that this happens during pregnacy and delivery, he said the best thing was a Hyst. My DH and I thought about it for about 1 month (while I wore a pessary to hold me together) and our decision was to go forward with the Hyst. I was on anti-depressants for a while leading up to the surgery because I was lossing it, I knew that this was the only decsion but was it the right one? I fought myself constantly, I felt like I was giving up/cahing in!
Sugery went well, but there was a mess inside there! gyno/surgeon had to take everything (ovaries, tubes, cervix, uterus) tack up my bladder and my rectum. One ovary had a cyst in it, half the size of the ovary and it had ruptured and was bleeding into my stomache. I had endo on my bladder, rectum, and liver which he left (stating that doing damage to these organs with laser was too high of a risk, and with overies gone it SHOULD die) I had alot of pain that day when I woke up but since then have had very little! I only had my cathidar for that day and night and had no problems going on my own after it's removal. I was able to drive 6 days afterwards and I have had little problem with spotting. DH and I resumed sex at 3 weeks (fooled around at 1 week post- op) without any discomfort to speak of ( a little vaginal dryness). I am now 8 weeks post- op and looking forward to returning to my factory job without restrictions tomorrow! Physicaly I am great, now if I could just get my head to catch up (still have a little depression now and then- and need medication for it somedays).
