I was diagnosed in April of 2006 with a 5.5 inch fibroid in my uterus.This was after months of heavy periods.At this time I was with a female doctor.I made the decision to have a hysterectomy myself.Nothing came out of my decision.In fact the female doctor just wanted to put me on the pill.Months went by and I kept on suffering.In August of that same year,I switched to a male doctor and he started the ball rolling.I was so severely anemic-My iron level was nonexistent.I was put on iron shots and pills.By September he was already talking with the hospital.By November my iron level had dropped a bit again-more pills.I was finally scheduled for February 16 and looked forward to this date.I left home at 5:30 am,parents drove me, in a terrible snowstorm.Arrived at hospital by 6:45 am and checked in.At 8:10 am,I was wheeled to the OR and maneuvered to the table.Something was placed in my IV and I was out in no time at all.I didn't remember much about recovery.I was wheeled back to my room and slid on to my bed.Boy did that hurt.I looked at the clock and it was 10:45 am.I asked if anyone had seen the Mack truck that hit me.They gave me some anti nausea drugs in my IV and a shot of morphine in my shoulder.I was wide awake until 5:30 pm.Dozed til 6:30 pm when I was awakened again.Nurses at the hospital were awesome-I got a back rub and massage and then it was time for my walk.I was released on the Monday and was home by noon.Hystersisters helped me immensely by answering all the questions I had and allieving all the fears I had.
