My name is Jennifer I go by Jen. About a year ago I started fighting with mother nature. Having a period 2x's a month that would last for 7 full days. 3 days out of the 7 I had would go through a box of 18 super plus tampons a day. The cramping would increase with every period. I finally bit the big one and went to the gyno. My pap came back normal, so he did a biopsy on my uterus to check for endom. which also came back normal. I have had 2 sister who are cancer survivors. (Uterus, ovarian, and cervical). My gyno said he could do a hysterectomy or another procedure called Nova sure which is where they basically freeze your uterus and for most women it stops the bleeding completely. I orginally agreed to take that procedure. It would have required me to take a vacation day from work on Friday and I could be back to work on Monday.

After much thinking and praying I had a change of heart. I called the office and told them I would prefer a hysterectomy. My gyno called me personally to discuss this and I told him I wanted my ovaries removed also. He was reluctend to do that saying I still had a good 10 to 15 years with them. I told him my family history and how high cancer runs in my family and he agreed with me. He scheduled me for surgery on 3/29.

While at the castle I was under the impression that he was going to leave my cervix since I was having a LSH/BSO. With my husband and DD in the room with me while waiting for surgery I ask how long it was scheduled for..(1 hour) After 3 hours my DD went to find out what the problem was. It took them 2 hrs to put me under..Then they ran into scar tissue which delayed the process also. After surgery My gyno said that my cervix was easy to get to so with my history he removed that also. I went home the next day.

I have had no regrets. During surgery they found fibroids which my gyno said was 99.9% sure to become cancerous without being removed. They also found adenomyosis in my uterus which was causing all the cramping. I have had several surgeries which I swear I would never do again but believe me this is not one of them. I would go through this again in a heart beat.

I hope my story puts at least one mind at ease. As each of us are different people and have different situations please know that you have came to the right place to find answers to most of your question. The choice to have a hysterectomy rest totally in your heart. Follow it.
