Everything (I believe anyway) started when I had my first child 2 days before my 21st birthday. I went into labor at 3am April 8th 2000. As soon as I got to the hospital, the nurse drugged. The next thing I remember is the epideral and another pill. Then at 2pm is when they wanted me to start pushing. I remember several different doctors coming in the room (my doc was on vacation ). They tried tieing a towel in a knot and a nurse pulling on one end while I pulled on the other. Two nurses then basicly got in the bed with me and started pushing on my tummy, nothing. Then a doc suggested forceps. Another said no we will loose them. As they stood there deciding what to do...at this time it was pushing 4pm. 2 hours of that mess. Then the heart monitor started beeping. My daughters heart rate was getting real low. I heard them say to get the on call OB doc down here stat and they upped my epideral and gave me another pill. I remember being wheeled into the OR and the call doc not looking very happy. I mean he has never seen me before, was called down right at time for him to go home. He delivered my daughter at 4:02pm. He then sewed me up...no staples. Desovable stitches. Needless to say, I got an infection. Now I have this ugly bumpy scar, inside as well I would later find out.
A few years later on Feb 27th 2002, I was to have another c-section to bring in my second daughter. Thank God I was at a whole new hospital in a totally different state and my new doc was not happy when he read the reports from the last pregnancy (later found out that the 'bad' hospital was a teaching hospital...no wonder I was butchered). Everything went good...only one problem. My doc then and now said that he had to make a whole new incision both inside and outside due to the crappy job that was done the first time.
Everything was going good. Then I decided to have a tubal. Went in for the tubal Jan 10th 2003...outpatient. Came out and doc said that my ovaries where attatched to my abdomen wall and kidneys. He was able to pull off my left ovary but my right one was really attatched and was going to be a whole other surgery so he left it since I was not complaining about any problems.
Well all was good until my system started to get back to normal and the birth control of depo every three months finally got of my system. I started my period almost 8 months after my tubal. My first one since 1999. Then I noticed the my periods started to get alittle heavier ( I am/was one of the lucky girls that had light cycles that last 3 days at the most and that was NOT on birth control ) then normal for me. I didnt think to much about it, just thought my lucky streak was over.
Then in the begining ot 2006 I started to have pain on my lower right side. My first thought was that ovary. I mean I had pain from time to time after I started my period again but I just thought that was gas but now it had started to get worse and more often. At times I would be out of breath it hurt so bad. Couldnt move. I remember being in the grocery store and I reached for something in the freezer and the next thing I knew I was bowled over in pain. That July I had my Pap done. I told the doc about the pain and he thought it might have been a bowel spasm so he put me on meds. They didnt help. Then he said that it was probably that ovary and now that it has started back to normal it was moving around in there and pulling causing pain. So he then put me back on birth control. A 3 month supply that was suppost to stop my period for those 3 months and take the pain away. NOPE I still had periods, heavy ones and pain.
That is when he decided to go back in and remove that ovary off the kidney. He thought going in that he was going to have to cut it off and I would loose that ovary but once inside he said he got aggressive and saved my ovary. I had laproscopic adhesion surgery Jan 17th 2007.
Guess what...the pain was still there! I had my 6 week check up and told him. He did an ultra sound to check for cysts. Nothing it was clear. He then said that the only other thing it could be is Adenomyosis and the only treatment is a hysterectomy. Of course I asked how come he didnt see it on the US or when he was in there in Jan. He said you cant see Adenomyosis on anything. It has to be diagnosed by pathology after a hystro. I didnt believe that so I talked to one of the Radiologist I work for. He said that an MRI could show the condition. So I requested my doc order me one and he was nice to do so.
I had my MRI and since I work in that area I was lucky enough to go straight to the reading room and stand over the Radiologists shoulder as he read my films. I got a copy of the disc and the Radiologist telling me I DID have the condition. That made me happy to hear, that something was causing the pain. That would all soon end when another Radiologist calls me and says NO I DONT have Adenomyosis. The my uterus was a perfect healthy 27yo uterus. I was dumb-founded. What the other doc saw was just blood vessels and my c-section scars. That didnt make me feel to good.
I go to see my doc the next day. He tells me that he dont care what the MRI showed, he wanted to take out my uterus anyway b/c he as never miss diagnosed this condition on any of his patients without doing an MRI.
I delt with the decision for 2 months then in March 2007 I decided to do it. Get the pain over with and be done. Well hoped it got rid of the pain anyway.
April 4th 2007...6 days before my 28th birthday I entered the hospital. It was 4:30 am. I got checked in and sent to the 2nd floor surgery pre-op area. At that time only my hubby was aloud back with me. I got dressed, they started my IV and I talked to the many docs and nurses that were with me that day. I requested a private room for my stay. Then my doc came in and said lets go! He and some nurses wheeled me back to the OR. There was a nice guy nurse there that kept me at ease while at the same time putting me to sleep. He asked about my kids...he remember me from Jan. Same nurse!
I remember waking up in the recovery room. I was freezing and asked for a blanket. I was shocked to see a nurse sitting in a chair at the end of my bed. She never left that chair either...only when I needed something!! I was in an out. I remember my family one by one coming in there but it is a fog.
I was in the recovery room for 8 hours!!! A room never opened until then. I was wheeled to my room and just as we got almost there, I threw up all over the floor. I asked for a basin but they were not fast enough and I leaned over the bed and *bluh*. I apologized but they said dont worry about it, it was not the first time. LOL
I got into my room and went to sleep. The next day the nurse took out my catheter. She was my age and very sweet to me. We chatted and had little moments of like we were best friends.
She came in later that day and woke me up and told me I needed to walk. I asked if I could go downstairs to see my co-workers. She said no. WELL.......I did anyway. I made my way down the hall. Then I got close to an elevator and couldnt help it! HEY she woke me up and started it! LOL
When I got back to my room she was waiting. Hand crossed and that mother look in her eye. All I could do was hang my head. She says, "You went downstairs didnt you?" "Yes Ma'am, and outside too." I stated. She then just started laughing and told the other nurses to keep an eye on me when I went for my walks.
Got a call from my doc. He had the pathology report. Guess what...Positive for Adenomyosis on the right side where my pain was. Thankfully NO CANCER cells.
I went home that Friday morning. The nurse came in and said I could go if I wanted. No sooner did she say that I turned to hubby and said start packing! LOL
I have had a good recovery. Wanted to have sex alot but cant. Did have some mild bleeding and some heavy rectal bleeding that the doc didnt seem to worried about.
This past week I got an infection. Took my meds for a week and today I am feeling good!
I start work back on Monday May 7th. We will see how that goes. I will probably need a nap when I get home. LOL
So far, that pain is gone and I pray it never returns!
Sorry for my story so long, but I wanted to start from the very begining.
I pray each and everyone of you gets better and cant start leading and normal life.
I say WE ALL GO SWIMMING!!!
