I had my first period at 9 and other than the typical problems that a 9 year old has with periods.. it was all fine. The real problems didnt begin until I was 17. It started with a check up.. bad pap and then biopsys.. lots and lots of biopsys. Before I know it, I am getting chemo and radiation. I got pregnant at 19, while on chemo. I was informed the pregnancy was doomed.. at the 5 month mark.. we lost him. Later that year I was informed I was steril. The cancer was finally killed off when I was about 22. I continued to get my bi annual paps like clockwork.. each time expecting to here those words again. It never happened. I started getting cysts.. fibroids and all the usual things all you women here are quite used to. I was not upset or bothered by these things at all.. they werent cancer. Occasionally there would be a bothersome one and it would be removed.

In my early 30s I missed a peirod. I had tons of pain and this went on for several weeks. I just figured it was another cyst and it would go away soon enough. I took lots and lots of black cohosh trying to jump start my period because through all this pain .. I was more than a little moody. I finally go to the ER.. I was pregnant. There was a problem. It looked to be eptopic. They removed my right tube. A week later I go for my follow up.. still pregnant. Pathology comes back on the mass in my tube.. cancer. I did a few rounds of chemo to be safe.. was told my pregnancy was doomed and at 12 weeks we lost him.

After the last pregnancy .. the adhesions started. So now I have cysts, fibroids, lesions, and adhesions. My doc is nearly begging me to have a hysterectomy. I refuse. My husband and I wanted a baby. So for 3 years.. we try. We try everything we can do on our own that doesnt involve medical assitance. During that time I had 5 surgeries on my reproductive parts. Adhesions, fibroids, cysts... It seemed like I was spent more time recovering from surgery than being healthy. So... we decided it was time to do the hysterectomy a few weeks after my 36 birthday. That we were just causing me alot of suffering for a baby that isnt going to happen. Then comes the cat litter bucket.. I bent over picked it up by the handle and felt a pulling... a pulling free and found out 2 days later I had internal bleeding and not getting the hysterectomy was no longer an option. There was too much damage and just no reasonable chance of repairing it.

My insurance would have gladly paid for a TAH.. because of my high risk of adhesions we needed the TAVH.. so we waited.. a month. I was on bed rest the whole time. This is where Hystersisters became my saving grace. I spent a month laughing and crying with the women here and when the day came.. I was ready. Really ready and I have Hystersisters to thank for that.

The day after my surgery my doc finds me walking down the hall with my coat rack of goodies and says " Hey.. do you know I just did major abdominal surgery on you yesterday" I responded with.. " I feel better than I have in a month" He could barely keep up with me walking back to my room to check me out.

My recovery has gone good. There was a little problem with a bladder infection and bladder spasms .. but thats cleared up now. Now its just the waiting of the recovery process. I cryed alot before the surgery. I have not cryed at all in the 9 days since. It was like I had the worst pms ever and I woke from surgery and it was gone. I have maintianed control over my emotions ever since. I have found a lot of peace in that we decided to do this before we were informed we had to. I keep saying we because my DH is just as effected over all this. Oh I almost forgot.. we know there was more cancer. That we wouldnt have found for a while had I not tore loose those adhesions. I will do a couple of rounds of chemo for good mesure..but after that. I am done. I am done with the cancer concerns on that extreme level. For that , we are both very relieved.
