Hi everyone!
I got home from the 'castle" about 20 minutes ago. I am sitting at my computer and trying to act like I am in pain so my family will wait on me hand and foot! LOL
I went in at 12;30 Thursday afternoon. My surgery was scheduled for 3:15. The only slightly painful thing was my IV. The shaved a "horzontal landing strip" in the pre-op holding area- no big deal.
They injected the Loopy-med into the the IV and I didn't sit up and sing this time! LOL
I remember them moving me onto the OR table, but then everything went black. Then it seemed like 2 seconds later I was opening my eyes! FREAKY!
I had a demerol drip and not much pain at all, just sleepy.
When I got into my regular room, I was groggy but not in too much pain. I have 19 staples.
My doc came in, showed me the 4 photos of my uterus! It was sooo cool! It looked like a slimy, sort of bloord, lumpy thanksgiving turkey! You could see the cervix sticking out. She said it was basically the size and shape of a football. Both overies lookd fine so she left them in . Hooray! No menopause yet! Also- they did a quick biopsy- benighn! Hooray. I knew it probbaly would be, as most are- but theres always that one little worry in your mind.
Kind of a rough night sleeping that night- but not because of pain- just because of hospital noise and inturruptions. I had that little clicker thing to press when I needed more ned.
The next morning (yesterday a.m.-) they had me sit up in bed. Almost immediately I got nausious and dizzy and one wierd thing happened- I felt like my throat closed up and I had trouble breathing. This happened a couple of times that morning, I was gasping for breath- they gave me a shot of ativan and it was better. I felt the muscles around my ribs, back, whole torso contract and loosen for hours. Guess this was in reaction to being messed with.
Anyway- I was on clear liquids for that day, no big deal- wasn't hungry.
OH- get this- my 22 cm HUGE uterus only weighed about a pound! geeze!
And - also- when I went in for the surgery, I weight 147 and after the surgery I weight 154! they said it was from all the IV fluids.
I take 2 lorTabs (vicodin) every 4 hours and an 800 mg motrin every 6 hours. I have hardly any incision pain, just a bit of an ache on the inside- but not much. The one thing that bothered me yesterday was "gas" pain. I thought gas pain was always down near your rear end but this gas pain was under my ribs, in my back- everywhere. But the painkillers really helped with this.
I can walk just fine, I feel almost completely normal and I have no doubt that after this week of rest I will be ready to join my preschoolers in the home-school.
I can climb stairs if I want- but take it slow- one step at a time.
I am sure there is more to tell, but thats all I can think of for now.
I am telling all of you- this was SO not as bad as I thought it would be. I feel great- and the whole thing was more of an inconvience than anything else. I don't really fell any different 'down there", but my belly is a bit swollen and stuff- maybe I will feel a difference someday.
If you have any questions, feel free to post. I am going to be spending most of my recovery week on this computer!!!!
