My pre-op journey started @ 9 p.m. the night before surgery. This is the time that I had to quit eating. After 12 midnight, I couldn't drink anything. I didn't have to use an enema or a laxative or anything!

I set my alarm for 5 a.m., to be at the hospital @ 6:15 a.m. Surgery was scheduled for 7:30 (I asked to be scheduled first, and they did). I didn't want to have to go hours with my stomach growling for food & my mouth wanting to taste some water.

I arrived @ the hospital at 6:15. Shortly after arriving, they called me back into the pre-op room, where I put on the ever-so-lovely gown & slipped on a lovely pair of blue paper booties. DH & DS came in very briefly after that. I remember being pretty nervous by this time & wanted to be left alone. So they left......plus, my son is only 8 years old & I didn't want him to get scared by the needles, etc.
After changing, the nurse came in & numbed my hand for the IV. First try with the IV WAS NOT a success, so she had to do it again. Wasn't bad, cause I couldn't feel it!
The OR nurse came in and introduced herself very soon after that. Then the anesthesiologist came in to discuss my options. I voted for the general anesthesia. I told her that I was a bit nervous & asked if I could be given something. She said "SURE!" The nurse came in moments later & pushed the Versed into the IV. Wow!!! Instant NO-WORRIES-IN-THE-WORLD!
My doctor then came in. I think I must have been just kicked back & smiling....cause I remember the nurse telling him that I had just received my Happy Juice. This is where events, happenings kind of get lost.......
Next thing that I know, they are wheeling me into the OR. I remember it feeling like I was being rolled into a walk-in cooler! Geeeeeeeeez, was it cold in there!
I was then asked to scoot from the gurney on over to the OR table. I said "sure...." Then the lovely stirrups were placed on each side at the end of the table. These looked different then the ones that you see at your GYN office. These even had straps (I think). I also think that my doctor was helping set up for the surgery!
Just a few minutes later, the anesthesiologist came over with a mask. I must have asked something just then (dont remember what), cause she said, "After you are asleep." She told me to breathe in deep 3 times....so I was doing what I was told to do.....and remember breathing in once (forgot to breathe deep though), then I remembered to take the second breath deeply........

I woke up in recovery with about 3 other people. Boy! was my mouth dry! I asked the nurse for something wet for my lips. She brought me this small pink piece of foam that was attached to a small stick.....and OH! it was wet! & OH! it was cold!
The nurse also asked me to rate the pain that I was having from 1-10. I gave it a 7. I think it was then when they hooked me up to the morphine pump. About 30 minutes later (maybe 45), I was taken to my room. When this guy came up to me in recovery & introduced himself (ready to roll me to my room), he asked me, "are you ready to go do your aerobics now?" I think that I laughed......and on we went.

Once in my room, nurse got me situated & DH & DS came in. I could barely keep my eyes open though! So they didn't stay too long. I remember my pain being tolerable, much like bad cramps. As the afternoon proceeded, my nurse helped me to the bathroom.....I couldn't pee. I sat there & sat there & sat there......I felt the nausea starting to happen & threw up on the floor. (There was nothing to throw up though, so it was kind of like dry heaving......ugh!)
Nurse came in and helped me & got me back to bed. My doctor came in to say hi on his way home later that evening. That moment is kind of fuzzy.
Around 6:30 that evening, my nurse told me that if I didn't pee in 15 minutes, then she would have to use a in & out catheter. I was then informed of the packing that was inside of me (so that was the PRESSURE!)
Couldn't pee, so she had to do it. It wasn't really bad....just uncomfortable for a few minutes. But what a relief!!!
I still had some pressure, but that wouldn't go away until the doctor takes it out.....which would be in the morning.
My night wasn't really bad, the night of surgery, just the aggravation of having the blood pressure checked & temp. taken every few hours, and having to PEE ever HOUR, got old really quick.

My doc arrived in the morning & pulled out the packing. I felt sooooooo much better then. He even ordered a regular breakfast for me, instead of the clear liquid one, that was being brought into me!
My IV was then taken out that morning, I was then given perocets for the pain every 3-4 hours. I went for a walk, took a shower & started to become restless & bored, so I walked some more.

That night after being taken off of the IV, the nurses didn't come in as much.......
I even had to walk down the hallway to the nurses station & ask for my pain meds.!
Think I was ready to go home at that very moment!!!!
Walked some more that evening with DH. Explored the hospital on different floors.
Couldn't wait until the morning!!!
Didn't really sleep well that night....just couldn't get comfortable! & had to pee EVERY HOUR! (Body releasing all of the IV fluid, etc.)
Doc came in around 8:45 a.m. (I was eating breakfast) & discharged me.....got dressed, waited for nurse & post-op intruction papers....and went home!
Sort of tender to the bumps in the road....but not so bad, we only had a 10 minute drive home.
Soooooooo glad to be home!!
