This is my first post, here is my story. I was schedeuled for 12/3 tah due to endo and fibroids. Sunday the 2nd, I did my bowel prep which wasn't great. Monday we left at 4am to make the 2 hr. drive to the hospital. After changing to my gown and putting in the iv, I met the antheseoligist.
He gave me valium and told my husband to kiss me goodbye. They told me to breath in some oxigen. Next thing I know I am in recovery. This was weird because when I woke up no one seem to notice. I was in a lot of pain and I heard a nurse tell the next lady , here's your pain pump. I started searching for mine, she handed it to me. I didn't think it was working, and the nurse assured me yes its working. Finally she must have gave something in my iv, I started feeling a little better. It seemed like I was in there forever. But it was about 4 hrs or so. They were waiting on a room for me. I had requested a private room so my dh could stay with me. Eventually they moved to my room on the oncology surgery floor, which was the size of my bathroom at home. I didn't care , but the helicopters landing outside was annoying. I was awake mostly the rest of the day. Then by 9pm or so I felt the morphine wasn't working. A nurse checked it and said oh it's not empty yet. A while later another nurse checked it and said it's almost empty and called the pharmacy. Never saw her again. A few hours later I'm really starting to hurt.
I call the nurse and ask her to check my pump. She says ok.
30 minutes later I call again, she says she's on her way. And she comes with a new refill or whatever you call it.
She hooks it up and says push it. I did, nothing happened.
She swore it was working and told me to try again in 30 min.
I did and this time it beeped funny but no meds. My hubby checks it and it showed it was out.
This time my dh walks down to the nurses station and brings another one back. She fixed the device right and it started to working. She said the pharmacy was backed up or something. After they gave me something for nausea , I finally slept.. The next day the dr. tells me my bp was 60/30 before surgery, they were very concerned, must be allergic to antibiotic. Almost cancelled surgery, but God was with me,and I made it through.
Igot to home the day after surgery, I hadn't even walked or anything. But I knew I didn't want to spend another night there. I came home , couldn't take lortab, made me sick.
The first few days were rough, I was throwing up or trying to . No appetite at all, and I hade some kind of sinus infection. After a few days, the drs. office called me in a zpak which really helped. Then my 8yr old dd started throwing up , so we both had a virus or something. LOL!
But today is day 7, and finally I feel halfway decent. I am eating better and walking more. And I know each day will be better. I am sorry this is so long, but I needed to vent.
God Bless and hang in there everyone. And thanks for all the info I read here, I was at least prepared.
