I had been experiencing having my period constantly. Then having it for weeks instead of days. This all began about three years ago. Went to the Dr, she put me on a low dose birth control pill. Could not tolerate that. I became so depressed all I did was cry. She then put me on Premarin and I had the same experience. I then began using a progesterone cream which seemed to help some little symptoms I was having like nightsweats, not being able to sleep well, BUT made me bleed more! I let everything slide for awhile then I went through three weeks of heavy bleeding. The Dr then sent me for a pelvic ultrasound. That showed two fibroids, 2 cysts in my left ovary and a polyp. My family prac sent me to a OB/GYN. We talked about watching it for awhile but she seemed to be heading in the direction of hysterectomy and I work less hours in the summer so I said, "Let's do it now"

I scheduled for Tuesday, May 29, 2001. I had LAVH at 7:30 am and was in my room by 10 am. I was told that she went in and started to remove the fibroid because it was quite large and in doing that, my uterus collapsed and she was able to just remove everything spit spat. I was in and out all that day, using a pain pump. I was given meds for nausea and had extremity pumps on my legs to prevent blood clots. The pain pump and extremity pumps were removed on Wednesday morning at about 10 am and the rest of the day I only had 1/2 of vicodin and two 600 mg ibupropin (my choice). I was not in very much pain and was able to urinate as soon as I tried. I was relased that evening about 6:30 pm and went home.

I continued to use vicodin just at night and ibupropin during the day and it was enough. I had very few complaints except for the tiredness that goes w/anesthesia (no spinal). I did not do stairs for about two weeks and only did some light cooking and the laundry for two weeks then I got right back into the swing of housecleaning, getting groceries at one week (just didn't lift them). I went back to work after one month since I sit most of the day and do not do heavy lifting. I was surprised how easy this was. I have a quadriplegic son that weighs about 170 and I did not try lifting him until about six weeks and then I experienced some pain in my incision but nothing extreme. I was back in the gym for just a half hour after one month and am gradually building back up to a full session.

I have noticed since the LAVH that I am slightly more prone to crying or being teary and sometimes depressed but so far nothing earth shattering. Also experienced headaches the first few weeks but those have now dissipated. It has now been seven weeks and I am feeling great.
